A look at this iconic Ferrari and you might think of
Magnum P.I
., the smash hit TV show from the 1980's. That's because during the first season, a 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS was used just like this beauty! This car however has one feature that makes it a very rare find. Read on!
From 1975-1980, there were only 3,219 GTS models produced. The GTS used a wet sump, 4 carburetors, naturally aspirated V8 engine—one of the last to use carburetors. With a compression ratio of 8.8:1 and 195 ft-lb of torque, this red rocket reached 150+ miles per hour easily. Zero to 100 mph in 15 seconds. In addition, this car had extensive maintenance performed in January 2016 (please see list below).
The exterior of this car shows very straight and tight fitting steel body panels. The doors close with a solid sound and fit. All the glass and mirrors are in very good condition and the headlights swing open as if brand new. Even the valance looks well taken care of.
The interior of this icon is a beautiful surviving gem. The vintage red leather seats feel very supple and are accented with black leather striping, making this a very rare color interior. Most of the 308's you see are beige or black. The same red leather is continued on the door panels while matching red carpet rests on the floor. The leather wrapped steering wheel shows very little use. All the knobs, levers and switches work, are in place, and look fantastic! This car would make Tom Selleck smile! It does for us and we're sure it will for you too! Plus, with only 16,827 believed miles, it isn't even broken in yet!

At the Motor Car Group, we're enthusiasts first. We want you to enjoy your new car from the minute it's delivered and the trailer door drops. Before a car leaves our shop, it's gone through comprehensively, both visually and mechanically. We do more than just kick the tires, though: We fill your tires with nitrogen, road test (if the weather permits us here in Cleveland!) and clean it inside and out. We buff the paint using a three-step process immediately before it's taken away so that it gleams when it arrives. Every car we sell, from Sunday drivers through the rarest exotics, is meant to be driven--get out there!

About Ferrari
The first Ferrari road car was the 125 S introduced in 1947 and powered by a 1.5 L V12 engine, right?
Well it's not quite that simple, Ferrari did in fact produce e Tipo 815, in 1940. Tipo 815 was designed by ex-Alfa Romeo engineers Alberto Massimino and Vittorio Bellentani and by Enrico Nardi under Enzo's company but legal issues with the former associate Alfa Romeo prevented Ferrari from launching the Ferrari marque at that point.

Enzo did produce a series of fine road cars in the 50's and 60's but they were merely to finance his true passion racing, wheather GT/Sports car or Grand Prix. The 50's saw the birth of Ferrari's most memorable cars, 250 GTB (tour de France) 250 Testa Rossa, 250 GT swb just to name a few.

Under the surface tension was growing though. In November 1961 long-time sales manager Girolamo Gardini made an ultimatum to Enzo: if tensions continued, he would leave the company. As a result, Gardini was ousted, as well as Scuderia Ferrari manager Romolo Tavoni, chief engineer Carlo Chiti, experimental sports car development chief Giotto Bizzarrini, and a number of others who stood by them.
Without Chiti and Bizzarrini the development of what was to become the most quintessential Ferrari and today the world's most expensive car, 250 GTO, was at a pivoting point. 250 GTO project was saved by a young engineer Mauro Forghieri and long-time racing bodyman Sergio Scaglietti who stepped in and took over the program with known results.

In addition to 250 GTO, Ferrari launced such master pieces as 250 LM, 250P, 275 GTB, 365 GTB/4 "Daytona" during the the 60's
By the late 60's Ferrari's prototypes' success came to a sudden halt by a new competitor, GT40. Ford turned to Lola to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after Enzo had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that gave Ferrari some heavy hits in Le Mans 24 to come.
By the end of the 60's FIAT purchased 50% of the company, starting a development that has led to a new mass-produced era of Ferraris.
