LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1970 Ford BOSS 302

The pony car rivalry had begun in 1967 with the introduction of the Chevrolet Camaro by General Motors. The Camaro gave Ford its first real competition since the introduction of the Mustang in 1964. However, revenge was sweet with the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302. The name was inspired by Ford stylist Larry Shinoda, who had a nickname among Ford employees of “Boss” and 302 was the motor to power this legendary mustang.

Under the hood, the Boss's high-output 302 V-8 was said to produce 290 horsepower at 4600 rpm, actual output was estimated to be far higher. Mated to the motor is the optional wide ratio 4-speed manual. Ford spared no expense to ensure this would be a Trans-Am-worthy power plant, installing new "dry-deck" Cleveland-style heads with 2.33-inch intake valves and no head gaskets, solid lifters, an aluminum high-riser manifold, super-high-flow Holley four-barrel carburetor, high-capacity dual-point ignition, four-bolt central-main-bearing caps, cross-drilled forged crankshaft, and special pistons.

This rare Boss 302 was sold new on December 6th, 1969 at Service Motors Inc. in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. This 1970 BOSS 302 Mustang has been a special car since day one factory finished as you see it today in the highly desirable Grabber Orange with Black Rhino/Corinthian Vinyl interior. This car is nicely optioned with factory ordered Shaker Hood, factory ordered Rear Spoiler, factory ordered Sport Slats, F60x15 Belted Tires, Power Brakes, Tachometer, Power Steering, Chin Spoiler, Magnum 500 Wheels and AM radio.

The car has benefited from a beautiful restoration back to showroom new. Before the restoration, the car was an extremely well preserved, low mile survivor and remained very much in all original condition. The Boss was stripped to bare metal to be refinished in a show quality factory Grabber Orange paint which was then wet sanded and polished. The undercarriage was painted in red oxide with body color overspray and such factory details such as inspection marking, batch primer, and black spot welds were recreated.

The engine is detailed with correct inspection markings, inspection stickers and tags. Close inspection reveals that the numbers matching BOSS 302 engine still remains under the shaker hood backed by the factory RUG-AW Boss close-ratio Top Loader 4-speed putting power back to the factory 3.50 gears. Complete with its mandatory Hurst Shifter.

These cars were made famous as the George Follmer’s “Grabber Orange” Trans Am Boss 302 Mustangs would dominate the racing circuits throughout 1970. The Ford BOSS Mustangs are among the great muscle cars of the day, this particular car checks off all the boxes of being the “right” example. To further this Boss 302’s investment potential it comes fully documented with Deluxe Marti Report, Build Sheet (also have pictures of the build sheet being removed from under the original carpet), Dealer Invoice, Restoration Documentation, and Owner’s Manual. This rare and desirable factory Grabber Orange BOSS 302 has all the essential criteria to make it a truly desirable BOSS to both collectors and enthusiasts alike.

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.

Today classic Fords are extremely popular with enthusiasts and a great selection of classic Fords can be found for sale at www.ClassicDigest.com
