Ford Thunderbird 312 CID V8 1957

General description : Featured and up For sale in our Orlando Florida Showroom is a 1957 Ford Thunderbird. The Thunderbird created a market niche that eventually became known as the personal luxury car. The Ford Thunderbird began life in February 1953 in direct response to Chevrolet's new sports car, the Corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the Thunderbird went from idea to prototype in about a year, being unveiled to the public at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20, 1954. It was a two-seat design available with a detachable glass-fiber hard top and a folding fabric top. Production of the Thunderbird began later on in 1954 on September 9 with the car beginning sales as a 1955 model on October 22, 1954. Though sharing some design characteristics with other Fords of the time, such as single, circular headlamps and tail lamps and modest tailfins, the Thunderbird was sleeker and more athletic in shape, and had features like a hood scoop and a 150 mph speedometer hinting a higher performance nature that other Fords didn't possess. This 1957 Thunderbird has Deep Mahogany with a contrasting buckskin leather interior. This car is a very nice high driver quality car from California .... numbers matching, no rust ever, having undergone a complete professional , frame-off ,nut and bolt restoration in the 90's and been in the hands of collectors since then. A complete pro engine and transmission overhaul was done in 2003 about 4000 miles ago. The car is mechanically without issues and runs reliably and smoothly. Although care was taken to restore this car as stock, certain changes were made to enhance it's looks and drivability: front disc brakes added for safety interior changed from vinyl to buckskin leather and suede, stainless steel exhaust system, electronic distributor, hardened valve guides, etc, to allow use of unleaded fuel. The car does not smoke or use oil.,suspension and steering are good but could be greatly improved by changing from the existing bias ply tires to more modern radials.,original signal seeking AM radio (in trunk) replaced with AMFM cassette. If your looking for a 1950s Thunderbird that has been loved and well cared for this is the one. About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.

Today classic Fords are extremely popular with enthusiasts and a great selection of classic Fords can be found for sale at www.ClassicDigest.com
