Even though Ford Torino Cobra wasn't as powerful as some other rivals, it was still a decent muscle car and strong enough on the road. The new 1970-1971 Torino was lower, wider, and longer with beautiful aerodynamic lines. 1970 saw the introduction of the 351 Cleveland engines in the Torino as well as the new 429 Thunder Jet, Cobra Jet, and Super Cobra Jet engine options. The top option of the 429-cubic engine was the 429 Super Cobra Jet which developed 375 HP. A regular 429 gained Super Cobra Jet [SCJ] name when the “Drag pack' was ordered. It required 3.91:1 or 4.30:1 axle ratio and included 4-bolt engine block, forged pistons, oil cooled, Holley carburetor and optional Ram Air induction which made no difference in power ratings.

During the thick of the muscle car wars in 1970, Ford fought back with several competitive high-powered models, including the fastback Torino Cobra Jet (CJ), whose 429-cubic-inch V-8 pumped out as much as 375 horsepower with the factory “Ram Air' option.

Up for sale, Masterpiece has a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra Jet, with 54,484 Actual Miles. The exterior of this Cobra, from the moment you lay eyes on it, is an excellent piece, where the panels fit, and gap alignments are excellent, and down the sides are straight as an arrow. This car features the Shaker Hood with the Black shaker hood scoop and blacked out hood. The rest of the body is covered in the Dark Blue Paint that has been buffed and polished to a mirror finish. It's slick as a ribbon and is equally impressive. All the chrome and stainless steel was either replaced or restored to like new condition. Likewise, all the glass, seals and weather stripping are like new. This Torino came factory with raised white letter tires, so what better way to finish it than to sit it on the steel wheels with small caps and rings wrapped in Radial G/T Tires.

The interior on this Cobra Jet is the original blue knitted vinyl bucket seats. Looking at the door panels they are in great condition along with all Cobra emblems, window cranks and handles. Also, the carpet and Headliner is done in Blue. When you get behind the wheel the first thing you'll do is reach for the Hurst Shifter. You'll notice the dash pad is in excellent condition with the Cobra Emblem. The car is well equipped and features power steering, power brakes with front disc, Hurst Shifter, bucket seats with center console, auxiliary oil pressure, temperature and volt gauges, shaker hood, AM Radio, and the stylish wheels are wrapped with Radial G/T tires, with a finished trunk with the proper mat, jack and spare.

We are now down to the guts of the Torino, that drives this Ford. As special as this car is, this is what puts it over the top. Only 2,131 of these cars were built with the 429 CJ engine and Four Speed Trans. This one features the 429 Big Block. It's mated to the Correct Top Loader Four Speed and a '70 model 9" Posi Rear end with a 4.10 Gear. The 429 also has the date code correct Ford Intake and Quadrajet Carb. It's dressed in the stock style aluminum valve covers. Being a Cobra Jet, it has the shaker that mounts to the factory air breather. For exhaust, it has manifolds with dual pipes and Mufflers. When you look under this Torino it is great. The cherry on top is that we even have the Marti report to document the paint color and drivetrain option.

These Torino's are steadily gaining value so don't miss this opportunity to own one before they hit the six-figure mark.

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.

Today classic Fords are extremely popular with enthusiasts and a great selection of classic Fords can be found for sale at www.ClassicDigest.com
