Chevrolet 3100 427 cubic inch V8 1952

General description : Quality older build. 427 Corvette engine, TH400 transmission, Camaro subframe with power steering, independent front suspension, and power disc brakes. Comfortable interior with late-model seat. A cool hauler that’s ready to rumble today.

If there’s one vehicle that we can point to that’s red hot in today’s market, it’s Chevy’s Advance Design pickups. Handsome, practical, and easy to modify, they offer everything an enthusiast wants in a hobby vehicle. This particular 1952 Chevy 3100 pickup has a traditional look with nothing shaved, chopped or modified and the color combination is just beautifully done. Two-tone wasn’t common in 1952 but there’s no denying that it looks great on the Advance Design curves, with silver fenders accentuating the gunmetal gray bodywork. And speaking of bodywork, it’s quite nicely done with straight sheetmetal, good gaps, and lots of block sanding to get that wave-free finish. The build was finished perhaps 15 years ago, so it’s not perfect but there are no notable dings or scratches and you’ll be able to show this one with pride just about anywhere you go. There’s also a lot of new chrome and stainless trim, including the grille, bumpers, door handles, and taillights, giving the truck a polished look. And while pickups are working machines, the beautiful oak floor in this one probably means its days of hauling gravel and other heavy stuff are over. It’s just too pretty!

The interior has been neatly upgraded with a bench seat from a late model tastefully upholstered in durable gray cloth and vinyl. The original dash is still there, including the beautiful chrome center stack and glove box lid, but the gauges are modern dials from Classic Instruments. There’s also a tilt steering column, a Grant GT steering wheel, and a B&M shifter for the TH400 3-speed automatic underneath. And dig the custom cut-out in the seat to clear the shifter—nice detail! The radio is a modern digital AM/FM unit that looks right at home in the original AM radio’s spot, and it powers a pair of speakers hidden behind the original grille. Overhead there’s a well-fitted gray cloth headliner that offers a bit more insulation than the original cardboard piece and all the weather seals appear to be new. It’s a comfortable place to spend your time.

Mechanically, this truck brings the thunder in the form of a big block Chevy V8 reportedly donated by a late-‘60s Corvette. All signs point to it being a 427 and it certainly runs like a big horsepower engine—a nasty bark when you start it and the kind of effortless torque that only cubic inches can deliver. On top there’s an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold, augmented by a mild camshaft inside so it idles nicely and doesn’t have any bad habits. There’s a giant aluminum radiator up front with an electric fan to keep it cool and chrome valve covers and matching air cleaner dress up the engine bay. All-new wiring, power steering and power brakes, and thoughtful details like an overflow tank and custom aluminum accessory brackets suggest someone was really sweating the details when this one went together. The engine is backed by a bulletproof TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and what appears to be the original rear end. The front end appears to be from a ’70s Camaro, offering independent front suspension, power steering, disc brakes, and significantly improved ride comfort over the original leaf springs and beam axle. A dual exhaust system features both Flowmaster and glasspack-style mufflers, so it’s mellow but muscular. Note that the floors and cab corners are in excellent condition, suggesting that this truck has never spent time in a harsh environment, and the stance is perfect—not too low but a bit aggressive. Part of that is due to the rolling stock, which consists of 17-inch chrome wheels with baby moon hubcaps and staggered 225/55/17 front and 235/55/17 rear blackwall radials.

Nicely finished, easy to drive, and very entertaining to drive, this is one of the better Advance Design pickups we’ve featured. It does everything well without asking for any special attention and it always draws a crowd when we take it out. These trucks are beloved, so take this opportunity to own a good one already done and ready to rock. Call today!

About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
