Jaguar XK120 Period Competition Roadster 1950

General description : Jaguar XK120 competition car. Offered here is an early RHD Roadster with an extensive period race history including five meetings at Goodwood, six at Silverstone, two at Boreham and other appearances at Snetterton and Prescott.
This particular car was manufactured in December 1950 and delivered via Henlys to Duncan T Russell, the managing director of J W Russell Ltd, an auto-electric company in Watford. Russell was an accomplished and enthusiastic competitor who began his career pre-war with a Hillman Aero Minx and was active in the Hertfordshire County Auto and Aero Club for many years, finally retiring as Chairman in 1964.
Russell began racing MNK 120 in 1951 and continued through to the end of the 1952 season during which time he competed against the top UK drivers of the period including Moss, Rolt, Parnell, Duke, Hamilton and Salvadori. He was a regular entrant in both international and national level race meetings and secured a number of podium finishes. As was common at this time he gradually uprated his car to improve performance and changed the colour from Silver to Blue for the 1952 season.
MNK 120 is unusual and special in that it suffered no significant accidents during its racing career and was never subjected to a poor restoration over the subsequent years.  Consequently, it was a wonderful foundation for a total Woodham Mortimer restoration that has just been completed, and this car provides a very rare opportunity to acquire a highly original Goodwood competition car that is eligible for all major international events.  The original engine block is supplied with the car but is not installed.

About Jaguar XK120
The Jaguar XK120 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful sports cars of the 1940s, and indeed one of the most beautiful cars ever made. It was introduced in 1948 and remained in production until 1954.

The XK120 was powered by a 3.4-liter straight-six engine that produced up to 160 horsepower, which was a significant amount of power for a sports car of its time. It was also one of the first cars to feature disc brakes, which gave it impressive stopping power.

But it was the XK120's stunning design that truly set it apart. Its long hood, flowing lines, and sleek curves made it an instant classic, and it was favored by celebrities and racing drivers alike. The XK120 was also available as a roadster or a coupe, further adding to its appeal.

The XK120 was also a successful racing car, winning numerous races and setting several speed records. It was a favorite of racing drivers such as Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, and helped to establish Jaguar as a major force in international motorsport.

Overall, the Jaguar XK120 was a true automotive masterpiece, combining beauty, performance, and innovation in a way that few cars have been able to match.
