Jaguar XK120 Roadster 1953

General description : This original RHD XK120 roadster was sold new through Nigerian based distributors Lewis & Peat, although as a home delivery private export car it was collected directly from the works by its first owner a Mr Taylor and, according to research by noted historians John Elmgreen and Terry McGrath, was initially registered NDU662. It then seems to have spent the first few years of its life abroad, possibly moving to Italy at some point when it was apparently owned by a US airman. The Jaguar returned to the UK in the late 1950s when it was acquired by the well-known Chairman of the BARC (British Automobile Racing Club), Michael Groves, who owned it for many years and often took it to spectate at BARC events. During his ownership the XK was re-registered 312JGW and received extensive restoration in the mid-1990s, which included a bare-metal repaint. Bills and photographs of this work are included within the large history file that accompanies the car. Later, 312JGW was entered into The Hurlingham Club Concours d’Elegance under the ownership of Tarek Mahoud and, in 2012, it was re-acquired by the family of Michael Groves before moving to us in 2017.
Having been very well maintained by its previous owners this charming XK120 now provides a fabulous opportunity to obtain an original RHD roadster with an interesting history that could be enjoyed ‘as is’ or would provide an ideal starting point for a programme of light restoration and upgrading, potentially to Mille Miglia specification. It is offered with the afore mentioned history file, a factory service manual, various spare parts, including the original engine block and cylinder head, and complete weather equipment. About Jaguar XK120
The Jaguar XK120 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful sports cars of the 1940s, and indeed one of the most beautiful cars ever made. It was introduced in 1948 and remained in production until 1954.

The XK120 was powered by a 3.4-liter straight-six engine that produced up to 160 horsepower, which was a significant amount of power for a sports car of its time. It was also one of the first cars to feature disc brakes, which gave it impressive stopping power.

But it was the XK120's stunning design that truly set it apart. Its long hood, flowing lines, and sleek curves made it an instant classic, and it was favored by celebrities and racing drivers alike. The XK120 was also available as a roadster or a coupe, further adding to its appeal.

The XK120 was also a successful racing car, winning numerous races and setting several speed records. It was a favorite of racing drivers such as Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, and helped to establish Jaguar as a major force in international motorsport.

Overall, the Jaguar XK120 was a true automotive masterpiece, combining beauty, performance, and innovation in a way that few cars have been able to match.
