1955 Jaguar XK140SE Roadster (LHD)

Finished in the delightful period colour combination of Old English White coachwork with St James Red hide, matching door cards, dash and Wilton Carpets. mohair soft and coconut weave over carpets finish off the ultra sharp look of the car. Our matching numbered car #S811983 was delivered new in LHD form and supplied new via agents JAGUAR CARS of NEW YORK.

The SE designation stood for Special Equipment, which included rear half bumpers, larger chromed wire wheels, dual exhaust, fog lamps, larger carburettors, and usually C-Type cylinder head, which resulted in 20 more BHP. Additional features included a close-radio gearbox with over drive, rack and pinion steering and front suspension torsion bars were stiffened.

It is evident to see upon viewing that #S811983 has been subject to a body off restoration and since these works had been carried out the car has seen little use. The underside of the car can only be described as exquisite, with a gloss black chassis with mirror finish gleaming chrome work and mm perfect panel fitment. First turn of the key, the car starts with ease, the instruments all springing into life. Once the engine has settled down, ran up to temp the oil pressure reads correct – depress the accelerator of the ‘big cat‘ and it lights up its tyres propelling you down the road with ease!.

The AUTOCAR road test 9th of December 1955 ” it is on such roads as the Routes-Nationales of France that the car comes into its own readiness with which 100 mph can be easily reached. Rather than the absolute maximum, it is the cars outstanding attribute. Heading south from the Belgian motor road where the maximum speed figures had been taken, the Jaguar seemed naturally to be turned in the direction of Le-Mans, where the marque has achieved such fame. It was the return journey against the clock that gave the greatest impression. Maximum speed was used in the intermediate gears with the change from top to overdrive being made at 5,500rpm. Le-Mans was left at 10.20am and the Jaguar was at Le Touquet airport at 2.28pm. Two short stops were included in the time and the last 90 of the 220 miles journey were on wet roads. In overdrive, the car seemed to don the proverbial seven league boots and the tall poplar trees lining the long straight stretches of the road appeared like fence posts rushing by.’‘

On the button, this sensational car is ready once again to motor down those long straight stretches of the Routes-Nationales with their tall poplar trees lining the long straights. Magnifique!

About Jaguar XK140
The Jaguar XK140 is a sports car that was produced by Jaguar from 1954 to 1957 as a successor to the XK120. It featured a number of improvements over its predecessor, including better brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and more interior space.

Under the hood, the XK140 was powered by a 3.4-liter straight-six engine that produced up to 190 horsepower, giving it impressive performance for its time. It was available in three body styles: a roadster, a fixed-head coupe, and a drophead coupe.

One of the most notable features of the XK140 was its stunning design, which was updated from the XK120 with more refined lines and a larger grille. The car also featured a number of luxurious touches, such as leather seats and a wood-rimmed steering wheel, making it a favorite among sports car enthusiasts and luxury car buyers alike.

The XK140 was also a successful racing car, with notable wins at events such as the Monte Carlo Rally and the Alpine Rally. It was also used in endurance racing, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Today, the Jaguar XK140 is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, thanks to its stunning design, impressive performance, and rich racing history.
