In 1978, Ford Motor Company celebrated its 75th anniversary with two commemorative cars, one being the Lincoln Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition. They only produced a limited number with production of 5,159 and only 2,557 finished in “Jubilee Gold". The Diamond Jubilee option was an additional $8,000 option over the base model making this the most expensive U.S. production car in 1978, coming in at a $22,000 sticker price at the dealership. With this option came bucket seats with a console, Cartier clock, special velour pillow interior with embroidered inserts, vinyl-insert body side moldings, vertical bars on the grille, bumper guards and rub strips, turbine-style cast aluminum wheel vanes, and padded vinyl deck lid with matching vinyl-insert lock cover, ebony wood-tone inserts on the instrument panel, door trim panels, front seat backs, and console. Also, the outside edges of the opera windows are beveled, and feature a Diamond Jubilee Script with a simulated diamond chip laminated between the glass.
