In 1976 nam DeTomaso het historische merk Maserati over van Citroën. In een poging om het merk winstgevend te maken werd een 'betaalbare' sportwagen ontwikkeld, de met hulp van Citroën gebouwde Bora en Khamsin waren te kostbaar om een groot publiek te bereiken. Omdat de Italiaanse overheid auto's met een grotere motorinhoud dan 2 liter fors hoger belastte werd een compacte doch sportieve vierzitter ontwikkeld met een voorin geplaatste V6 met 1996cc én twee turbo's. Zo kwam men toch nog aan een niet geringe 180pk en een soepele motorkarakteristiek. In combinatie met een betrouwbare ZF 5-bak met sportschakeling snelt de auto in 6,5 sec. naar 100km/u, en dat met een V6 motorgeluid wat je met een blinddoek om nog herkend als dat van een Biturbo. Een zeer leuke auto met een interieurafwerking uit de edelste materialen, zo is er echt wortelnotenhout en het fijnste Italiaanse leer gebruikt. Zie de foto's van de luxe stoelbekleding bijvoorbeeld. Deze Maserati werd in 2017 naar Nederland gehaald, de laatste eigenaar (een ons bekende ingenieur) kocht de auto bij Wim Prins. Hij liet er het nodige technische werk aan doen, zo is bijvoorbeeld de airco ijskoud en zijn onderhoudszaken als remmen en banden up-to-date. De auto is dan ook rijklaar en voorzien van een recente APK bij ons te koop voor de prijs van een bescheiden boodschappenwagen, staat er toch een Maserati voor uw deur.
