Combining a hot Pontiac 400 with a smooth 3-speed, razor-sharp aesthetics and miles of top-down bliss, this award-winning Poncho is sure to put the wind in your sails! BORN RED
Rolling out of GM's storied Norwood facility as a legit Matador Red over Black Firebird, this engaging F-Body has benefitted from decades of steady restoration. Naturally, that work has maintained proper MoTown form. And today, this handsome cruiser walks a fine line between tastefully contemporary and traditionally flamboyant. At the front of the car, a racy spoiler frames ornate lighting while a polished grille pushes a monochromatic arrowhead past bold 'PONTIAC' lettering. At the top of that beak, a scooped hood plants red '400' scripts just right of a contoured tachometer. Opposite that tach, Soft Ray class stretches correct Black vinyl around stainless wipers, polished frames and ornate factory mirrors. Beneath those mirrors, a sculpted profile floats polished door handles, flowing louvers and stylish marker lamps above dent-free rocker guards. And at the back of the car, a 'PONTIAC' branded valance stacks clean taillights between a third '400' script and a broad bumper.
PONTIAC POWER
Take a look under the hood and you'll find 400 cubic inches of clean Turquoise muscle that's been professionally rebuilt around a Crower hydraulic, flat-tappet cam. 800cfm of Rochester Quadrajet carburetion joins an MSD Pro-Billet distributor to kick start combustion. Fuel and air flow in to iron GM heads, which marry a camouflaged Edelbrock Performer RPM intake to coated GM manifolds. Traditional V-belts spin factory power steering beneath a rebuilt Pontiac alternator. A beefy aluminum radiator has been disguised as old school factory fodder. A polished and decaled air cleaner mirrors polished breathers and polished valve covers to add sufficient flash. And items like a fresh brake booster and stainless fluid lines add proven merit to the car's show stopping style.
IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT
At the bottom of this slick Firebird, solid floorpans tell the story of a clean car that's been restored as needed. Behind the mighty motor, a proven Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed spins power to a rebuilt 10-bolt that's finished with a posi-traction differential and 3.55 gears. Below that stellar drivetrain, a factory suspension centers factory power steering between standard-issue power front disc and rear drum brakes. At the center of that Satin Black chassis, aluminized exhaust hangs an X-shaped Pypes crossover in front of buff Dynomax mufflers and polished stainless tips. And everything rolls on 15-inch Rally IIs, which twist 225/60 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 245/60 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.
AS THE FACTORY INTENDED
Open this car's solid doors and you'll find a retro interior that's mostly as the factory spec-d it. High-back bucket seats are supple, firm and look every bit as nice our pictures imply. A weather-free dash hangs rebuilt telemetry next to a correct pushbutton radio. Beneath that dash, a wood-trimmed console founds a small shifter behind Auto Gage accessory gauges. And the driver spins a stylish Pontiac steering wheel.
