Pontiac Firebird 400 1968

General description : Frame Off Restored Resto Mod
Many Upgrades and Features
PHS Documented

Legendary Motorcar is proud to present this 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 Hardtop
The first generation Firebird, unlike its Chevrolet Camaro cousin, had bumpers integrated into the design of the front end and rear "slit" taillights were inspired by the Pontiac GTO. The 1968 Pontiac Firebird underwent few changes going into its second year. Changes included a one-piece side door glass window in place of side vent wing windows and the exterior also gained fender marker lights. The interior received some revisions and the rear suspension was refined with the adoption of staggered shocks. Both a two-door hardtop and a convertible were offered through the 1969 model year.
This 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 Hardtop has been fully restored having undergone a frame off restoration and upgraded with many features which make it a stand out among its kind. The factory build document shows that this car was made with a 400 cu. in. V8 with 4 barrel carburetor, an Automatic transmission and optioned with a Safe-T-Track rear axle, Ride and Handling Package, Power Steering, Power Brakes and Soft Ray Glass. This car now has a larger, well tuned and smooth revving 455 big block engine which is topped with a Holley double pumper, Edelbrock Performer intake and MSD ignition which work together to create a great sounding note through the full length stainless steel Magnaflow exhaust. The engine has been detailed with a chrome oil pan and valve covers which add to the appeal of the very clean and highly detailed engine bay. Driveability improvements have been realized with the addition of Hotchkis upper control arms, new front and rear sway bars, gas shocks, four wheel disc brakes and a smooth 5-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter to go along with the 10 bolt rear end. The exterior solid Burgundy paint is in very good overall condition and refinished to a great looking, quality factory look, it has been polished to show off its deep rich color and wonderful shine. The front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed and present in as-new condition; all exterior trim which is in excellent condition has been entirely restored or replaced including both full length rocker and all wheel well trim, mouldings, accents, and emblems. The interior is very nice with the seat covers, dash, door panels and woodgrain center console being in very good original condition – also of note is the custom wooden steering wheel, full set of Auto Gage gauges and carpets, which have been replaced, appearing as-new. On the hoist, one can appreciate the restorative efforts as the frame and floors have been stripped, blasted and refinished properly, and component parts have been disassembled, cleaned and reassembled with new hardware; also see all new brake lines and fuel lines. The final look is all classic with a nice set of Cragar S/S wheels mounted with a slightly staggered set of BFG T/A’s tires, 215/ 65/15 up front and 225/70/15 rears.
This car comes with a copy of the original Window Sticker and Pontiac Historical build document. Having been recently serviced, this fantastic Firebird 400 requires nothing except to be immediately enjoyed by its new owner.
