Porsche 911 / 993 3.6 Twin Turbo Flat 6-Cylinder 1996

General description : 1996 Porsche Twin Turbo
VIN: WP0AC2993TS375527
Metallic Black Pearl with Black Leather

Considered by many enthusiasts to be a modern classic, the Porsche 993 Twin Turbo remains today a hallmark performance machine. Its specification bears remarkable similarity to the 959 that stunned the motoring world ten years earlier, including a 6-speed manual gearbox, all wheel drive, twin turbochargers, and 400+hp, all of which results in 4 second 0-60 times. Today, the 993 is especially appealing to Porsche enthusiasts not only for its fantastic performance, but also because it represents the last of the original air-cooled 911 in both character and design. Porsche enthusiasts will instantly recognize the familiar dashboard, doors, and greenhouse, despite over thirty years separating the two cars. When asked why the door design was unchanged for so long, Porsche Design Chief Harm Lagaay simply replied “it’s a good door”. The 993 has of course been significantly updated and bears all of the modern equipment expected of a car of this caliber and all the desirable traits of legendary Porsche engineering.

This particular 993 Turbo has benefited from lifelong California ownership since delivered new October 15, 1995 as a 1996 year model. The original owner heavily optioned the car with premier features making it one of the finest performance cars available at the time and one of very few 993 Turbo models optioned with Full Leather (detailed below). Options from the factory include:

Sun Roof

Seat Heaters

Left and Right Front Seat Lumbar Support

Nokia Digital Sound Processing Audio System

Alpine 7807 CD-Radio

CD Storage Behind Handbrake lever

Stainless Steel Door Entry Guards with Logo

Automatic Speed Control

Pleated Leather Front Seats

Pleated Leather Rear Seats

Black “Full” Leather, which included leather covered door openers, seat adjustments, seat-heating adjustment, entrance panels, vents and covers, glove box knob, center fresh air vents, fuel tank pull knob, signal/wiper switch, sun visors, B-pillar covers, window switches, front and rear seatbelt housings.

Dark Rosewood Trim, which included the shifter, door trim, dashboard trim, and parking brake lever.

After delivery, service and maintenance was performed regularly at qualified dealerships, which is well documented in the car’s file. During long-term California ownership, the car was regularly serviced and maintained primarily by Walnut Creek, CA Porsche dealers Michael Stead Porsche (now Porsche Walnut Creek). The factory service booklet was regularly stamped and filled in, accounting for recommended maintenance including interval services per Porsche factory maintenance schedules specifically outlined for 993 Turbo models. Among the many Michael Stead Porsche receipts on file with the car, a few notable ones include replacing the clutch pressure plate, carrier plate, release bearing, and rear main seal at 40,000 miles, and all new oxygen sensors, lower cam cover gaskets, exhaust rings, and seals as needed at 46,000 miles. New P Zero tires were installed at 50,000 miles, a new clutch pedal accumulator at 54,000 miles, 60k mile service, replacement of a faulty hands-free audio unit, installing new headlight control units, a new ballast unit, and installing a new rear sunroof seal. In addition to the 60k interval service, the car was treated to an $11,400.00 engine out service (with transmission) including a new clutch disc, cam covers, cam adjustment, chain housing reseal, turbo covers, hoses, rings, seals, and gaskets per factory recommendations.

Today, with 62,800 miles indicated, this Porsche 993 Turbo presents beautifully with original factory Metallic Pearl Black paint that is exceptionally well preserved and glossy throughout. This wonderfully maintained and thoughtfully preserved Porsche has only mild evidence of road use on the frontal surface, benefitting from careful ownership and professional care. The body panels show excellent factory door, trunk, and hood gaps, exceptional fit along the front and rear bumpers, and nicely maintained exterior trim. The lenses and original factory glass are also in fine condition. The wheels are in very good condition, accented by red brake calipers peeking out from the factory rims. The right rear wheel shows minor curb rash, while approximately 50% tread wear remains on both rear tires. The overall look and feel of this car is all the more dramatic, delivering the iconic 911 profile with stealthy tinted glass blending into the striking metallic black body color.

The original leather interior and extensive leather covered trim has been remarkably maintained, showing only minor evidence of use on the driver’s seat and shift knob. Excellent pleated front and rear leather seats and matching accents are beautifully combined throughout the interior. The door panels, including door pulls and door pocket lids are all in very nice condition, many of which appear essentially as new. The optional Dark Rosewood trim adds a delightfully elegant and rich touch to the performance interior. The center console features the original Alpine CD radio and driver’s side radio controls concealed in the hinged armrest. The dashboard, gorgeous instruments, and center console are all in near new condition with switches and features operating as expected. The headliner, leather covered sun visors, and control surfaces are all uniformly crisp and nicely detailed The overall fit and finish of the interior is fresh and cohesive, further supporting the documentation and long term dealership care this car has received since new.

The engine compartment and trunk are both unmodified and remain in very nice condition. The original engine is absolutely correct and properly maintained while also exhibiting excellent detailing. The trunk shows preserved factory materials and finishes including the collapsible spare tire (never used), proper black molded components, factory treated metal parts, and correct hardware.

The car starts instantly and the clutch and gearbox work in perfect harmony, owing in part to the dedicated ownership and fastidious dealership care afforded on this car. The motor provides a wonderful and distinctive turbocharged roar, opening up all the power and potential these cars can achieve, even by modern standards. The suspension responds with distinctive 911 character, while the brakes offer a firm pedal, easy modulation, and intuitive control, delivering a balanced but invigorating performance car. The chassis is composed, tight, and authentic, showing absolutely no evidence of structural compromise when inspecting the clean and unmolested underside.

The car comes with a complete set of factory books, owner’s manual, original keys, factory compressor, tool roll with tools, and factory jack. Service and Porsche dealership maintenance invoices, documenting important milestone work performed on the car also accompany the sale.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a heavily optioned, dealer maintained Porsche 993 Turbo, finished in stunning Metallic Black Pearl with Full Leather interior. The exceptional cosmetics, unmistakable performance, and remarkable ease of use result in a superb and iconic examples of one of last of the great air-cooled engineering marvels of the 20th century.

About Porsche 911 / 993
The Porsche 993 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 models produced between 1994 and 1998. It was the successor to the Porsche 964 and was the last of the air-cooled 911s.

One of the most significant changes in the 993 was the introduction of a redesigned body that featured smoother curves and a more aerodynamic shape. The 993 was also the first Porsche 911 to feature an all-aluminum subframe and a multilink rear suspension, which helped to improve handling and ride quality.

The 993 was powered by a range of engines, including a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated flat-six and a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six. The top-of-the-line 993 Turbo S was capable of producing 450 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful production cars of its time.

Today, the Porsche 993 is considered a classic sports car and is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. Its combination of classic styling, modern features, and high performance capabilities make it a true icon of the Porsche brand.

As a hobbyist car, the Porsche 993 is popular among collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy working on and restoring classic cars. While the 993 is more complex than some of the earlier air-cooled Porsches, it still offers a relatively simple design and mechanics compared to modern cars. This makes it a good choice for those who are interested in learning about automotive restoration and maintenance.

Overall, the Porsche 993 is an important part of Porsche's history and remains a beloved car among automotive enthusiasts around the world. Its classic design, advanced features, and high performance capabilities make it a true masterpiece of automotive engineering.
