Porsche 911 Early LWB T Targa 2.2 1971

General description : The Porsche 911 T was introduced in 1967 as a new base model, initially with a 2.0 Litre engine before later gaining a larger 2.2 litre Flat Six capable of producing 125 bhp. Two years after the original coupé's introduction, a convertible 911 - the 'Targa', named in honour of Porsche's numerous victories in the Sicilian Classic - arrived in 1966.Expected US safety legislation had prompted an ingenious approach to the soft-top 911, the Targa sporting a hefty roll-over bar to protect the occupants in the event of an inversion, together with removable roof and rear hood sections, which were stowed in the boot. For 1969 a quieter and less leak-prone fixed rear window replaced the less than perfect rear hood, and the ever-popular Targa would continue in this form into today's current 911 generation. The car we are pleased to offer for sale is a 1971 example that was delivered new to California. The car is a 5-speed example with factory Air Conditioning, Blaupunkt Radio, and 'Appearance Group', giving the car the 'S' style instrument cluster with gauges for oil pressure, temperature and level. It would reside in California until 2015 when it was sold and imported to the United Kingdom. Soon after it arrived in the U.K. it was sent to specialists Prill Porsche Classics who carried out a significant mechanical and cosmetic overhaul to a cost of over £30,000. Included in this work was a substantial strip down of the engine, gearbox, and running gear with all parts being cleaned and refitted if useable or new parts supplied if not.The Albert Blue paintwork was treated to a full flat and polish whilst the black leather interior, carpets, and steering wheel were thoroughly cleaned and restored. The car also received a new Targa top and headlining and all four Fuchs wheels were fully refurbished and fitted to the car.The car now presents superbly and is currently showing just over 68,000 miles. All 911s are brilliant cars to drive, with the Targa adding the advantage of offering open air motoring on sunny days. Bulletproof reliability combined with classic good looks and a thrilling driving experience make this 911T Targa a fabulous addition to a collection or a great way to get into classic motoring.

About Porsche 911 Early LWB
The early Porsche 911 long wheelbase models, also known as the "L" models, were produced from 1968 to 1973. They were named so because of their longer wheelbase, which increased by 2.4 inches from the previous models. The longer wheelbase provided a smoother and more stable ride, and also allowed for more interior space.

The long wheelbase models were powered by air-cooled, flat-six engines, with displacement ranging from 2.0L to 2.4L. They were available in coupe and Targa body styles, and were equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. Notable features of the long wheelbase 911s include their distinctive "ducktail" rear spoiler and Fuchs alloy wheels.

These early 911s are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, pure as swb cars but easier to drive and handling better.
