Classic wagons are absolutely cool. Especially when you have this 1970 AMC Ambassador Station Wagon that has upgraded V8 power and the control of a four-speed. Yes really, this grocery-getter has four-on-the-floor! It makes for an awesome and interesting vehicle that's ready for all your family and friends.
The AMC Ambassador was about being large and premium all in the first glance, and this one upholds that quite nicely. We have the window sticker that tells us this was born Frost White, but this was given a professional respray later in life to really bring out the high-gloss appeal. Bright chrome bumpers, turbine-style wheels, AMC mud guards, and a body-colored luggage rack all drive home that look of retro-cool and premium. And as you look closer, you see a well-done wagon with doors that close with authority. Plus, the full pinstriping package loves to show off the straightness of the sheetmetal. And while this full-size wagon already has a ton of appeal, there's also terrific rarity. After all, AMC made far less than the other car manufacturers. In fact, there were less than 14k wagons built in 1970, and half a century later, we bet you're going to be hard-pressed to find another sleeper-style machine like this.
Just like a true premium vehicle, the blue pinstriping is a preview of the full blue interior. The low odometer is believed to reflect the car's total mileage (the mileage is still actual on the title), and the ultra-clean presentation inside really reinforces this little-use feeling. Both rows of seats have a classic button-top style that's repeated on the door panels. It's all part of an overall time capsule-like style. There are great vintage features like the working clock, wood-like trim, and working dome light. They also have the original AM radio on display and provisions for air conditioning in case you want to restore these factory features. The huge rear cargo area means you can take family and friends along for trips or tailgating. Of course, you don't need anyone else to have fun in this special AMC. The classic Ambassador logo steering wheel has a great vintage look and feel. But the sensation you'll really love is when you look beyond it to spot the hood tach. It goes nicely with floor shifter for you to truly enjoy what's in the engine bay.
We know this was born a V8 car, but when making something this cool, they made sure to reach up and grab the best on of the era. So this is now powered by AMC's mighty 390 cubic-inch motor. It looks quite stock in the engine bay, and so you retain a little more of the sleeper style. However, if people dig a little deeper, they will recognize performance upgrades like the Demon four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock RPM intake. The enhanced V8 even gets to exhale out of a newer H-pipe dual exhaust. And you get full control over it all thanks to the T10 four-speed manual transmission. While this makes for a cool hot rod style wagon, it also never loses its practical side. Power steering, power brakes, and modern cruising whitewalls means this grocery-getter easily means grocery runs.
