1964 Aston Martin DB5 For Sale In London (RHD)
Finished in the timeless and iconic colour combination of Silver Birch metallic coachwork with Connolly Black hide, matching Black Wilton carpets bound in leather. This car has been subjected to complete bare metal restoration with all works overseen by our Managing Director. The works did not stop there, the complete trim was removed and completely retrimmed by one of the leading experts, all chrome removed and re-chromed, new kick plates made, new wire wheels, highly detailed engine compartment plus much more. The aim was to duplicate the most famous car in the world – BMT 216 A aka 007 license to kill James Bond. No small detail was overlooked as the car was fitted up with bullet wing mirrors, 3 ear spinners and Motorarole radio to complete the look.
Upon reading through the cars history file this particular example has been highly cherished throughout its life, originally supplied by agents Brooklands the 13th March 1964 making our car one the first cars fitted with new 5 speed fully synchromesh ZF gearbox. A reflection of the cars past history is its wonderful awards won through the AMOC, best in class and multiple 1st prizes – which reflect its super high standard.
Launched September 1963 which was memorable for many reasons. Its arrival coincided with the departure of the legend John Wyer as team director, he could take credit for the Le Mans victories by Aston Martin in 1959. The new car bore the mark of the masters who continued to work on the car – Tadek Marek in the choice of the 4-litre engine giving usable power right through the engine range where the DB4 has previously struggled. Harold Beach moving the company on from the David Brown four-speed box with overdrive to the compete, ZF 5 Speed. The 4 litre engine also had three SU carburettors that helped deliver the smooth torque curve
The DB5 was a direct derivative of the DB4, but it cost £4,175 – a £670 premium over its predecessor. With a total of 1,021 cars were built over the production run, 89 less than the number of DB4’s but over a much-reduced production run. Of those 1,021 cars, convertibles accounted for just 123 cars. Even lower volume was one that derived from a personal request from David Brown when he had asked the factory to convert a DB5 Coupe into an estate car – the requirements were a capacity to accommodate his polo kit and a grilled rear compartment for his dogs.
The DB5 is the finest ‘David Brown Aston Martin’ and worthy of comparison with the best GTs of the period from Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini. Truly, a Gentleman’s Carriage.
