1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage X-Pack Volante Manual (RHD)

Finished in the sublime colour combination of Rolls-Royce Balmoral Green coachwork with Cognac Connelly hide, matching dark Green Wilton carpets, Anthracite Black Mohair soft top and fitted Lamb’s wool rugs. As per the ‘Works’ heritage certificate and build records that this particular example was built for the UK home market and ordered to V8 Vantage X-Pack 430 BHP specification making our car 1 of only 109 cars built worldwide.

Specially ordered in manual transmission form from new making this car even rarer as 1 of only 79 cars built in this configuration. Additionally, this example was 6th from last off the production line of V580X Vantage Volante built at Newport Pagnell.

Additional features of the flagship Aston, included Ronal alloy wheels, Cibe headlights, Air Conditioning, Large bore sports exhaust, Fully electronic soft top with heated rear window. Our car is also fitted with a beautiful Nardi wood steering wheel.

Interest in these “last of line” X-Packs has grown dramatically in recent years due to the short production run making this truly a unique opportunity to own possibly one of the finest British Supercars and make a wonderful addition to any collection. Having been impeccably maintained regardless of cost throughout its life, this particular example has covered just 38,500 miles from new equating to annual mileage of 1,283 miles. Accompanying the car are the owner-drivers book pack, service book, tool roll & jack.

Between March 1977 and December 1989, the V8 Vantage was the only British member of the Supercar club. It may have weighed as much as a house (about 1800 kg actually) but could see off the skimpy Ferrari 512BB and Testarossa plus the Lamborghini Countach with aplomb and carry an extra two passengers.

Since the Vantage’s introduction in 1977 customers had requested an open version. Aston officially refused to build such a car due to concerns with safety at high speeds. Vantage state of tune was only fitted by the factory to the V8 Vantage coupe until 1986 when the Vantage Volante was officially released.  Before this time no officially certified Volantes with Vantage engines left the factory with full type approval.

It was to be 1986 before the Vantage Volante came to fruition. Its shape was inspired by V8COR15363, a car built for the Brunei Royal family. After much discussion between engineering and marketing, the final shape was derived. No wind tunnel testing was involved so engineering made calculations and added 15% for an extra safety margin. Hence the overly be-spoilered and fendered Vantage Volante was born. It used the same mechanicals as the V8 Vantage X Pack and benefited from lessons learnt in Zagato development. By the time production ceased, only 167 Vantage Volantes were built of which 109 cars were built to full X-Pack specification, the first in 1986, the last in 1989, beginning at chassis number V8CHR15506 and ending at V8VKL15847.
