Buick Regal 3.8 V6 Turbo 1987

Allgemeine Beschreibung : RARE REGAL TURBO - SAME TURBO V6 FOUND IN THE GRAND NAT'L, CLEAN AND VERY FAST!

If you want an all-black Buick Grand National, well, there are plenty of those around. But if you want something truly unique, very cool, and totally stealth, then this 1987 Buick Regal T-Type is the superior choice. All the firepower of the GN with a low-key look that is more "little old lady from Pasadena" than "Lord Vader."
I'll admit that I have a soft spot for factory sleepers, as if there's a cabal of engineers deep within GM building special cars designed only to break hearts, and this T-Type totally nails it. Burgundy paint, chrome grille and bumpers, and even pinstripes, how cool is that? It's very nicely preserved for being 30 years old and it appears to be entirely original paint, so someone has obviously loved this car. They probably had to include the hood bulge to clear the turbocharger, and maybe that deck lid spoiler has an aerodynamic advantage, but beyond that, this Regal is only a padded roof away from being grandma's church car. Fit and finish are typical '80s GM, good but not great, but it's the preservation and unusual specification that makes this one so cool. You will not get noticed prowling around in this, and that's exactly the point. Plus it's rare, with only a few hundred Regal T-Types being build versus nearly 20,000 Grand Nationals. Show up at the next Buick Club national meet with this car and watch where the crowd forms (hint: it won't be around the GNX).
Inside, you are treated to pure '80s GM luxury, with a pillow-tufted split front bench, burgundy velour upholstery, and yes, a column shifter. From behind the wheel, the only thing that gives away the massive firepower is the boost gauge tucked way down in the lower corner of the instrument panel. There's a tach that's also kind of an afterthought and a "Turbo 3.8 Litre" badge on the dash, but the guys who designed this one must have been giggling like schoolgirls as they put it together. All the luxury features are standard, including A/C, locks, a tilt steering column, and cruise control and at some point someone installed an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit that fits pretty well given the oversized slot it had to fit in. The upholstery is in very good condition with only very minor signs of age and even the trunk is still wearing its original mats and space-saver spare tire.
The engine is the exact same 3.8 liter turbocharged V6 found in the Grand National. THE EXACT SAME. That means a whole lot of untapped potential, a wall of torque at any speed, and the ability to smash just about anything on four wheels just by mashing the loud pedal. With legendary reliability, this one remains pretty much in factory-stock condition, meaning no boost upgrades or other issues. That also means it's a blank slate for improvements, and horsepower has never been cheaper than with the turbo Buicks. The 2004R 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission never seems to whimper at the turbocharged power and with 3.42 gears out back, it's still punchy on the street despite its luxury underpinnings. It seems to have been fitted with an aftermarket dual exhaust system that gives it a bit of a growl, as well as an aluminum rear end cover, but there are no signs of abuse on the chassis. 15-inch alloy wheels were a handsome choice, but if this were mine, I think I'd buy a set of steel wheels, have them widened for a set of drag radials with whitewalls, and install some glitzy chrome wire hubcaps, then go hunt some Corvettes.
This is an insane car no matter how you look at it. It would be a mistake to consider it a "bargain" Grand National. Instead, think of it as the weapon of choice for those of us who prefer to hunt in the open. Call today!
