1967 Cadillac Eldorado (LHD)

As the Henry Ford Company failed in 1902, one Henry left and another, Henry Leland, arrived. Leland’s job was to sift through the remaining assets. He did so and convinced investors they could still be a viable company using his proven one-cylinder engine. In honour of Leland’s distant ancestor and founder of Detroit, the company was rechristened the Cadillac Automobile Company. Precision manufacturing, reliability, and parts interchangeability became Cadillac’s hallmark. While perhaps hard to fathom today, the concept of interchangeable parts was a novel idea back then. Cadillac’s reputation grew as did the demand for more powerful cars. Cadillac’s introduction of V12 and V16 engines in 1930 kicked off a ‘cylinder war’ among American luxury car manufacturers.

It was in 1952 that the Eldorado name was first launched, bringing a luxury icon to the world which would remain at the pinnacle of its segment for 50 years. The name was an incredibly successful result from an internal naming competition in which a secretary named Mary-Ann Marini came up with the to name their new concept car Eldorado, after the famed City of Gold which would be the perfect commemoration for Cadillac’s Golden Anniversary.

Initially acting as a mere trim level in earlier examples, Eldorados soon got exclusive styling in 1957 and 1958, as well as the Series 70 Eldorado Brougham which put the Eldorado above all global competitors with it being the most expensive car in the world, more than any contemporary Rolls-Royce, Bentley or Mercedes.

It woulld be another 10 years however for an Eldorado to have its own unique bodywork and this came with the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe, an incredibly striking 2-door, 4-seater Personal Luxury Car. It’s pillarless design made for a spacious, airy cockpit, equipped with state of the art features which was typical of Eldorado’s of the time, perhaps the most distinctive feature being the slim rear quarter windows which instead of sliding down, slid back along rails, disappearing into the thick C-Pillars.

Equipped with air-conditioning, radio, Sentient Eye automatically dimming headlights, soft closing boot, cruise control, power door locks, windows, steering, brakes and mirror among numerous other features, this beautiful Eldorado is just as luxurious a car today as it was when it first left the dealership in 1967. It’s beautiful styling also makes it a standout, continuing in the vein of other Bill Mitchell designs such as the 1963 Buick Riviera and the Split-Window Corvette Stingray. The rear end styling feels akin to a Facel Vega with its taillights seamlessly integrated into the fins. Perhaps the most distinctive line of all runs along the centre of the car, from the mascot, all the way along the bonnet, over the roof, through the arrowhead-shaped rear windscreen, all the way down to the rear bumper.

We are proud to present to you this truly stunning example, finished in Summit Grey Metallic with a Black Vinyl Roof and interior, the car is undoubtedly one of the finest examples available anywhere, not to mention in such a great timeless yet very contemporary colour combination. It is truly the ultimate Personal Luxury Coupe and should not be missed!
