1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible (LHD)

In 1958, Cadillac were arguably at the top of the automotive world. At a time when a Rolls-Royce, Bentley or Mercedes-Benz would have a straight 6, wind up windows, manually adjustable seats and in the Mercedes’ case a manual transmission, Cadillacs had a V8, power windows, power seats and a buttery smooth automatic transmission. If an ordinary Cadillac however wasn’t for you, there was the Eldorado and for the rich and famous alike, you could opt for the unparalleled Eldorado Biarritz Convertible.

On top of all the impressive features listed above, Biarritz had power operated quarterlights, a power hood, power brakes, leather upholstery and the now hugely desirable Sabre alloy wheels (one of the earliest uses of alloy wheels on a production), all as standard equipment. Power came from a triple carburettor, 335BHP, 365-cu.in. V8, smoothly propelling the car to a considerable top speed of 124mph, no mean feat given the size and weight of this beautiful automobile.

1958 marked an important year for both Cadillac and General Motors, the former selling its 2 millionth car and the latter celebrating its 50th Anniversary. All GM manufacturers produced a special flagship model to mark the occasion, all featuring astonishing levels of chrome brightwork and radical styling which gave the 1950s some of its greatest looking cars. These included the Chevrolet Impala, Pontiac Bonneville, Oldsmobile 98 models and the Buick Roadmaster. At Cadillac, there was the Eldorado Seville (a coupe) and most desirable of all, the Eldorado Biarritz, not just Cadillac’s but America’s ultimate convertible. All of these models featured twin-headlights which was new to GM for 1958. The Eldorado featured unique styling, particularly at the rear which tapers downwards to the bumper, flanked by two tailfins. The rear end design is unusually clean and simple with its delicate curves and somewhat minimal brightwork compared to most of the cars contemporaries, making for a truly stunning car from all angles.

The car we present today is an excellent demonstration of how impressive the ‘58 Eldorado Seville was. We have restored the car to truly exceptional standards as is clearly visible in the photos. Presented in Black with Red leather interior, the car truly shines, the paint is mirrorlike and the brightwork has been re-chromed to an excellent standard, both inside and out. A highly specified example, the car comes with Autronic Eye (automatically dimming headlights), E-Z-Eye Glass and the particularly desirable Parade Boot Cover which further enhances the car’s already stunning lines.

Being one of just 815 cars ever produced and fewer remaining, our car is undoubtedly one of the finest ’58 Eldorado Biarritz’s available anywhere, having been restored to true Concours standards right down to the finest details. If you’re looking to experience how truly impressive it would have been to take delivery of an Eldorado Biarritz new or if you simply want one of history’s greatest convertibles, look no further than this magnificent Cadillac.
