Allgemeine Beschreibung : This 1958 Chevrolet Delray 409 is a cool two-tone sleeper like you'd see back in the day. After all, beneath the shining bright chrome is a serious big block heart and the control of four-on-the-floor. So it's time to have so fun with the old-school blacktop burner.
We already are big fans of the '58 Chevy. After all, it's a single-year design that was built with a wide style to own the streets. That's why you see the quad headlights and a broad chrome grille. It's detail-oriented, too, like the way the lower rear fenders have a rising crease so that it can meet the line of the rear bumper. You can see all of it so well, because this car has a ton of brightwork, and it all looks clean and complete. This attractive trim is even used to divide the Cashmere Blue and Arctic White. The bright two-tone seems like the ideal 1950s color combo, and that really goes to the heart of this car. It has a great classic style, and utilizes the base Delray body, so it's exactly the way people built some of the best street machines. In fact, you may not even really pick up on this Chevy's upgraded nature if you don't spot the raised white letter tires and competition-style American Racing Torq Thrust wheels.
The two-tone interior continues this car's clean and unassuming style. In fact, you're likely to be more impressed with how this full-size two-door sedan offers plenty of room and seating finished in a supple white leather. There are nice details, like how the upholstery pattern on the seats is repeated on the doors. Plus, the custom/comfy high rear seatback has a blue Chevy bow tie, and there are matching seatbelts in the front. The dash has the bright and classic look. Even the AM/FM digital tuner is a retro-style one to keep the whole atmosphere feeling vintage. The artful blue and chrome steering wheel has that ideal thin/grippy classic feel, but Hurst floor shifter reminds you there's more to this one than just nostalgia.
The 1958 Chevrolet introduced big block power to the cars. While the legendary 409 cubic-inch V8 size was still a few years away when this one was built, we now know the engine bay can accept it with ease. So that's exactly what they did here for this true street machine style classic. And while you'll like the extra polish of the valve covers, air grabber, alternator, and more, the real attraction is that this 409 also inhales deeply with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor. It fires up nicely while making the right deep tone from the dual exhaust. It's both powerful and smooth as you take full control with the four-speed manual transmission. This feels good out on the road, especially with wide modern tires, upgraded power brakes, and front discs with drilled and slotted rotors.
