This 1989 Chevrolet S10 is more than just a little truck with some major nitrous V8 power. It can almost go undetected as a cool little sleeper, but if anyone takes a second glance, they'll see the ghost flames, bulging hood, and huge rear tires that all announce that you're worthy of the street and dragstrip.
Park this S10 among the big boys at the next cruise-in and see what happens. Few people will be fooled by the stock grille because we all can instantly see there was a serious investment in the paint on this pickup. The pearlescent green paint cover every inch of the truck's metal, including the front bumper, side mirrors, and door handles. It has the unmistakable shine of a professional clearcoat, and plenty of it. The coordinating color ghost flames are a cool detail to faintly see in the sunlight, and you know they have an eerie glow under nighttime streetlights – a very cool touch. Even the details are great with clear turn lenses and a butter smooth cover for the truck bed. But more than just look great, features like the power dome hood and Centerline wheels tell the world this S10 means business.
The moment you open the door, the interior instantly gives away this truck's wild side. After all, the custom flames on the door panels wouldn't go in a shop truck. The stock seats have been replaced by two modern buckets with plenty of bolstering to keep you planted when the throttle gets pegged. The driver gets a Hurst Promatic 2 shifter for the automatic transmission, a trio of auxiliary gauges, a custom sports steering wheel with cool flames, and a huge Sunpro tachometer for those times you want to expertly bang your own way through the gears (starting to see the big performance trend here?) Everyone can enjoy the AM/FM/CD stereo, but this pickup is really about rolling the windows down and listening to the monster exhaust.
This S10 might look like a sleeper but it's hard to hide the mighty sound it makes. Underneath the hood is a small block V8 that's a big block's worst nightmare. It starts with a 350 cubic-inch ZZ4 performance crate motor dialed at 10.5:1 compression and backed by Scat competition rods, CNC forged pistons, and moly rings. It has roller rocker, lifters, and a GM Hot Cam. This V8 inhales deeply through a Demon four-barrel carburetor and a Professional Products Typhoon intake. It exhales with authority thorough Advance headers and out the dual exhaust. There's even the pricy Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) and electric fan to keep everything reliably rumbling along like it should. And for those few times when this monster motor isn't quite enough to show everyone your taillights, there's also a nitrous kit installed. Making big power is one thing, but getting it to the ground is another issue. That's why this pickup has been reinforced with a three-speed automatic transmission with 2,500 RPM stall. The power then gets sent to a Moser rear end with an Auburn limited slip differential that has 3.73 gears for good take offs. The final step in this traction package is the set of extra wide Nitto NT555R rubber. These grippy and expensive tires working with the traction bars will keep you stuck to the ground like super glue. The total package is an extreme drag machine, but you can still hang a license plat on it. There are even features like power steering and front disc brakes. That means you don't have to just trailer this one to the strip, and instead you can easily spend your Saturday nights cruising the streets for prey.
