It was introduced in the 1959 model year in response to Ford's successful Ranchero coupé utility, and was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body. This 1987 El Camino was the fifth generation of the unique ride and the very last year that they were produced by Chevrolet.
