Dodge Charger 1968

Allgemeine Beschreibung : Thoughts of the legendary Charger immediately bring to mind a near perfect blend of basic transportation and big performance. See, back in the late '60s when muscle cars started packing on premiums to increase margins, Dodge continued to honor the tenets of the cheap speed movement. In fact, the second-generation Charger was carefully designed to stay firmly grounded in the realm of affordability. And today, 50 years into the future, that adherence to principle fosters a remarkable line-up of classics that, because of their purity, seem to perpetually gain value. Take this brilliant resto-mod for example. Combining 528 cubic inches of aluminum Hemi stroker with a Tremec 5-speed, a professional restoration, and a roster of both exceptional and logical upgrades, it's an excellent example of why vintage Detroit metal will always be incredibly appealing. Shopping for an unadulterated embodiment of the quintessential muscle car? Take a long look at this impressive MoPar!
THE CHARGER'S CHARGER
A 'best-year' Charger resto-mod that's part strip scorcher and part boulevard star, this striking coupe is the product of a professional, nut-and-bolt restoration that was perfected by Arizona MoPar experts SS and AFX. Naturally, that intricate build included modern two-stage, which manifests as vivid orange pigment that would've been right at home during Chrysler's High Impact days. And that stunning shell is highlighted by a trick Charcoal deck stripe that casts decidedly Bronze reflections.
This Dodge's all-American shine kicks off with a stainless-trimmed grille, which hides bright halogen headlights behind a guarded bumper, a sporty 'Charger R/T' script and fratzog-branded parking lamps. A pinned hood seats small turn indicators opposite polished stainless wipers, which clear tinted, stainless-trimmed glass that's reflected in color-keyed, Challenger-style mirrors. A sleek profile centers an ornate fuel filler and a power antenna between factory door handles and classy marker lamps. And at the back of the car, a second guarded bumper frames a Satin Black valance that's spiced with 1968-exclusive taillights.
THE HEMI'S HEMI
Spinning solid horsepower into tenacious torque, this Dodge's 528 cubic inch Indy Hemi is ready for anything the street throws at it… Anything! At the top of the all-aluminum mill, a polished air cleaner, complete with a reusable filter element, dumps breeze into a beefy Holley Brawler 4-barrel that's complete with polished lines and an electric choke. A lightweight MoPar intake plays well with lightweight Edelbrock heads, which tilt dressed, Hemi-themed valve covers over Stage V rockers, Smith Brothers pushrods and COMP solid roller lifters. A quality SCAT crank spins tough SCAT rods beneath a rowdy COMP cam and Ross Racing 10:1 pistons. Stout compression gets sparked by a traditional-style distributor, which sequences fire between MSD Digital 6A ignition and Taylor Spiro Pro plug wires. An aluminum 440 Source water pump drains a modern aluminum radiator that's sandwiched between big pulley fan and a big pusher fan. Exhaust duties are handled by coated long-tube headers. Glowing two-stage slinks through the whole engine bay, highlighting a clean firewall and slick fenders. And overall, everything from the car's polished breathers and Chrysler washer tank to its braided fluid lines and Fuelab pressure regulator is well planned and well executed.
THE RESTO-MOD'S RESTO-MOD
Bottom-side, a Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch kicks a trusty Tremec TKO600 5-speed, which twists torque through a requisite Dana 60 axle that's built with a Trac-Lok differential and big, 3.73 gears. That dressed pumpkin pushes a traditional rear-clip that's built around a big sway bar, mini tubs and relocated leaf springs. Power-assisted steering guides a traditional torsion bar front-half that's finished with a second big sway bar. Quick stops are a cinch thanks to proven Wilwood calipers which, with the help of Hydratech hydroboost, squeeze a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. The aforementioned headers push spent gases into coated, large-diameter pipes, which align throaty Flowmaster mufflers behind an H-shaped crossover. At the corners, bronze-tinged Budnik Murocs turn 275/45R18 Bridgestone Potenza Sports in front of 345/35ZR19 Bridgestone Potenza Scuderias. And the car's solid, Satin Black floors are dotted with first class details like stainless hardware, welded subframe connectors and a fresh fuel tank.
THE CLASSIC'S CLASSIC
When you pop this Charger's doors, you'll find a thoughtfully updated cockpit that honors the car's legacy of being unabashedly old school American muscle. Top dead center, a factory dash hangs rebuilt factory telemetry next to controls for aftermarket air conditioning, modern Alpine audio and small AutoMeter accessory gauges. Modern bucket seats, reclining units that align big bolsters with three-point shoulder belts, join a factory bench between factory side panels. A tough TKO Pistol Grip Shifter sails a factory console on clean, fade-free carpet. And the driver spins a half-wrapped billet steering wheel.
With a beastly drivetrain, an excellent restoration and stunning aesthetics, this super cool MoPar combines big swagger with big appeal. It's fast. It's fun. And the addition of conveniences like power steering, power brakes, modern air conditioning and modern overdrive simply sweeten the deal. Longing for a lights-out resto-mod that's built to please? Take a long look at this impressive 1968 Charger!
