Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible 1964

Allgemeine Beschreibung : Sleek, intimidating and authentic to the code 'R', this national award-winning Ford Galaxie is the kind of ride you always wished your dad would pick up to replace the family's stodgy 4-door. Instead of an economical inline six, it has a top-option 427. Instead of a boring automatic slush box, it has a tough Borg Warner 4-speed. And today, thanks to a fresh restoration that was conducted by Galaxie expert Donald Allen, it's fully sorted and ready to drop jaws!
A THUNDERBOLT FOR THE BOULEVARD
Documented as one of only 204 427-powered Galaxie convertibles assembled for the 1964 model year, this classic is easily one of the finest full-size Fords in the country! The car recently benefitted from a comprehensive, frame-off restoration that was conducted by 'Mr. Galaxie' himself, Clarksville, Georgia's Donald Allen. A roster of NOS components is veiled in correct Vintage Burgundy 2-stage that's been teased to a buttery, show worthy shine. That legendary pigment is fitted with a number of correct details, including fresh brightwork, factory-tint glass, FoMoCo lighting and an NOS top that's wrapped in NOS fabric. And presently, this high quality full-size rolls as timeless American muscle that, in addition to taking home AACA Junior and Senior honors on its first outing, has been displayed at the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance.
ALL ABOUT THAT 'R'
An authentic R-code stoplight slayer, this beast draws big motivation from a correct, 427 cubic inch FE V8. Essentially a bored 406, Ford's proven NASCAR powerhouse combined cross-bolted bearing caps, heavy-duty connecting rods and a solid-lifter cam to twist hearty 11.5 to 1 compression into 425 horsepower straight from the factory! The Jet Black mill, professionally rebuilt by Carroll's Engine Rebuilders of Athens, Georgia, is dominated by a finned Thunderbird air cleaner and date-correct Holleys, which are wedded to a correct aluminum intake. At the front of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences spark between a FoMoCo coil and fresh Radio Resistance wires. At the sides of that distributor, polished valve covers hang correct Thunderbird decals above a lightweight valvetrain, date-correct medium-riser heads and restored, header-style exhaust manifolds. Cooling is provided by a shrouded and tanked radiator, which cycles water through pliable FoMoCo hoses and old school tower clamps. And aesthetically, the car's tagged and decaled engine bay looks good enough to show off to anyone, with monochromatic fenders perfectly framing high quality ancillary hardware that includes rebuilt horns, a bright FoMoCo washer bag and a reproduction red cap battery.
STRENGTH TO MATCH POWER
Bottom-side, pristine floors back a heavy-duty chassis that was stripped and fully detailed during the car's extensive restoration. The 427 transmits torque to a date-correct Borg Warner T10 4-speed that, with the flick of a wrist, transforms a would be boulevard cruiser into a racetrack battleship. Behind that gearbox, a heavy-duty driveshaft spins a rebuilt Ford 9-inch that's finished with an open differential, 4.30 gears and heavy-duty axles. Old school manual steering joins heavy-duty drum brakes to mix surprisingly tight turns with weighted feedback. At the center of the car, a free-flowing, true-dual exhaust system hangs throaty NOS mufflers in front of correct resonators. And at the corners of the car, high performance steelies twist 7.10-15 Firestone Deluxe Champion blackwalls around Ford 'dog dish' hub caps.
ALL BLACK AND ALL BUSINESS
One of the best virtues of this Ford is its purpose-built interior. It's a pretty basic set-up that was designed to swiftly shuttle occupants from point A to point B -- major emphasis on the 'swiftly'. At the center of the car, fresh Black benches perfectly complement stainless-trimmed door panels. In front of those seats, a freshly finished dash hangs ornate gauges between a blue-trimmed steering wheel, a vintage AM radio and a vintage clock. Below that dash, color-keyed floor mats protect like-new carpet, which frames a retro shifter. And behind the cockpit, a nicely finished trunk centers an NOS mat under a full-size spare tire.
A scant fraction of Galaxie drop-tops rolled of the line with Ford's coveted 427/4-speed drivetrain. Add in a detailed, ground-up restoration that was completed by one of the hobby's premier Galaxie experts, and you have a stellar collector car that'll draw crowds at pretty much any show you choose to attend. Looking for a stylish, comfortable and exclusive classic that commands respect anywhere it goes? This national award-winning Ford is your hot ticket!
