Ford Maverick 1972

Allgemeine Beschreibung : 'The whole is greater than the sum of the parts' ' Aristotle
At RK Motors, we sell cool. If it has a motor and tires, you can probably find it in either our current inventory or our past inventory. When it comes to cool, it doesn't get much better than a well done hot rod. And when it comes to well done hot rods, it doesn't get much sweeter than this exceptional Ford Maverick! 'The whole is greater than the sum of the parts' can be stated about any top notch classic, but it seems like an especially fitting relation for this world class coupe. Sure, the car IS the product of a 2,000+ hour build that mixes unique customization with upgraded structure. Naturally, its carefully tailored 302 makes much more power than the factory ever imagined. And yes, to date, the car HAS won 16 national awards. But, as a potential buyer, you're getting so much more than parts, time and trophies. You're getting a truly one-of-a-kind custom that will consistently reward you with a unique driving experience every time you open the garage door. And that, our friends, is the WHOLE experience!
THE CALL OF THE CUSTOM
One day you're just sitting at your house enjoying a little downtime from the career you've built in the automotive industry. Ever since you were old enough for your dad to hand you a wrench, you've played with cars. You'd made plans to meet a good friend today who, sadly, now divorced, needs to move his collection of cars from the house his former wife won in the settlement. The move is going pretty much as planned when you spot a solid 1972 Ford Maverick hidden away in a recess of your friend's shop. The friend says he purchased the car about 19 years ago and had always planned to restore it. You, ever the fan of unique classics, just can't seem to forget the car. It's calling to you, just begging to be part of a wild build. When you get the Maverick back to your shop, you decide on an easy, $5,000 restoration that'll transform it into a cool driver for your teenage daughter. But every car enthusiast knows how this old story goes: Famous Last Words….
The product of a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration that took over 2,000 hours to complete, this Maverick has, in addition to claiming 16 national awards, been prominently featured in Modern Rodding Magazine. The car's builder, a 25-year veteran of the automotive aftermarket industry, sums his creation up as a 'what if' project. As in: 'What if Ford built a performance-oriented Maverick?' or 'What if someone reimagined a Maverick as a street rod?'. Naturally, the car's body was stripped bare before donning custom PPG Venom Blue Envirobase, which flies ghosted stripes under PPG Glamour clear. And today, this Ford has stormed ISCA events, led Goodguys events and earned multiple honors at the Detroit Autorama!
Speaking of the sum of parts, let's get a closer look at a few of those choice components. At the front of the car, a tucked and smoothed bumper, re-chromed by the pros at Advanced Plating, bends around a custom front valance that's part Maverick, part 1969 Camaro. That valance centers bright driving lamps between a billet grille, modern headlights and an aggressive chin spoiler. At the sides of that blade, a clean profile rolls Shelby-style ghost stripes past flush Hagan markers, polished Ringbrothers handles and painted Vision Hot Rod Concepts mirrors. A carbon fiber Grabber Hood, sourced from Maverick Man Carbon, leads a stainless-trimmed windshield that's cleared by polished wipers. Those wipers contrast tinted side glass that, in addition to sporting Venom Blue trim, highlights shaved drip rails and subtly extended reveals. A stainless-trimmed backlite leads a carbon fiber Maverick Man Carbon decklid that aligns well with a carbon fiber Maverick Man Carbon spoiler. That spoiler shades a Dynacorn Shelby-style valance, which centers a Johnson's Hot Rod Shop fuel filler between sequential, Shelby-style taillights. And a second smoothed and tucked bumper, re-chromed by the pros at Advanced Plating, tops a custom rear valance that integrates polished Flowmaster exhaust tips.
FORD V8
Check this classic's custom engine bay and you'll find 302 cubic inches of proven Ford power that dynos at a solid 340 horsepower and a smooth 354 lb./ft. of torque. At the top of that storied mill, a customized Billet Specialties air cleaner funnels wind into a coated Edelbrock 4-barrel, which drops a precise mixture of air and fossils into a polished Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake. That intake is bolted to proven GT40 heads, which balance striped Billet Specialties valve covers between billet breathers and a professionally cleaned and honed block. Inside that block, a professionally ground crank pushes professionally cleaned rods under a Ford Motorsports cam and professionally cleaned pistons. Fires get lit by Compu-Tronix distributorless ignition, which sequences spark between body-matched coils and loomed Taylor plug wires. A pliable serpentine belt spins a billet March accessory drive under a custom coolant tube. Cooling comes courtesy of a big Champion radiator, which fronts a body-matched puller fan. And the monochromatic block is centered in a matte engine bay that features a smoothed firewall, a relocated battery and custom inner fenders that were stitched together by Prior Brothers Fabricating.
BETTER THAN EVER
The bottom of this Maverick is no less impressive, centered on solid floors that spent a lot of time propped on a rotisserie. Those pans get pushed by a Lokar-enhanced Ford AOD 4-speed, which spins an aluminum Ford Racing driveshaft that's threaded to a Ford 8-inch axle and sporty, 3.80 gears. That road-ready pumpkin drives a factory rear-clip that's upgraded with lowering blocks, CalTracs traction bars and spry KYB shocks. That clip follows a Rod & Custom Motorsports Mustang II-style front-half, which mixes dropped spindles and powder-coated control arms with Aldan coil-overs and power rack-and-pinion steering. Solid stops occur when a Wilwood master cylinder jolts smoothed and painted calipers, which squeeze 13-inch drilled and slotted rotors. Coated shorty headers bump aluminized, true-dual exhaust, which hangs an H-shaped crossover in front of welded, dual-chamber mufflers. High quality details include stainless fluid lines, a Powermaster starter and tubular subframe connectors. And all that premium hardware rolls on Billet Specialties Vintecs, which spin 225/45ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sports in front of 255/45ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sports.
CUSTOMIZED WITH A VISION Swing this Ford's lightweight doors and you'll find a tastefully tweaked interior that, while it may look delightfully vintage, is brimming with cool upgrades. Front and center, customized Black Houndstooth buckets, sourced from a 1998 Mustang GT, lead a custom-built bench that's designed to provide the same level of comfort. In front of those thrones, a custom-fabricated dash, which continues the car's hood stripe, hangs a full suite of New Vintage gauges, complete with a shift indicator, above billet foot pedals and modern Kenwood audio. Speaking of shifting, a polished stick leads a modified '63 Impala console, which surfs clean carpet that's stacked on thick insulation. Handsome doors integrate trick Ford logos between Nu Relics power windows and custom kick panels that frame JL Audio speakers. The driver spins a polished and wood-rimmed wheel around a tilting Ididit column. And naturally, the car's trunk is custom-upholstered to match.
The product of meticulous planning and a lifetime of skill, this exclusive Maverick is the perfect car for any enthusiast who wants a top-notch build without spending two years and six figures achieving it. At first glance, the car appears to be a basic and simple classic, but unmatched presence, an acute attention to detail and amazing quality grab your attention almost instantly.
