Ford Mustang Shelby prepared race car 347 CID V8 4 Speed Manual $590,000 1967

Allgemeine Beschreibung : For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a very special piece of racing history. It was in the Shelby Heritage Center in Las Vegas Nevada the last two years on display. This is the first Shelby-built FIA Group II, SCCA Trans Am Series Competition Mustang Coupe. VIN 7R01A164680. This is the first car built (of the 26 total Road Race Competition Coupes), Produced at the LAX, Shelby California Facility. Ordered/Purchased by George Kirksey (Associated Press/Houston, Texas, Professional Sportswriter, Shareholder of the Houston Astro Baseball Franchise, responsible for bringing Major League Baseball to Houston, Executive Promoter and amateur Porsche 911 SCA Club Race Car Driver).Partnered with Carroll Shelby and Freddie Van Beuren Sr. (Wealthy Businessman from Mexico) to purchase the very first, Shelby Competition Coupe, to compete in the 1967 SCCA Trans-Am/A-Sedan Championship. Purchased for the sum of $5,500 plus a $150 delivery charge. Delivered, sorted and used as a "mule" test car for the remaining 25 cars Shelby would build in 1967 by Chuck Cantwell and Jerry Titus prior to delivery at the Willow Springs, California Race Track (historical notes from Cantwell and Titus are available in the historical document files), to Sebring International Raceway for the second race (of the eleven race series) of the 1967 Trans-Am Season (finished 41st/51 laps/Differential failure). Kirksey and VanBeuren Sr. named their Race Team Effort "dos caballos" (two horsemen). VanBeuren Sr. also owned a '65 Shelby Mustang GT350 "R-Model" that his son Freddie VanBeuren Jr. raced in SCCA B-Production and the 1967 12 Hour race at Sebring, International Raceway, Sebring, FL. The Dos Caballos Team Logo was 2 Ford Mustang-style running horses. Hired drivers for 1967 included; Freddie VanBeuren Jr., Paul Jett, Don Sesslar, Allan Moffat, Crew Chief; Clell Thorpe (Former Shelby Crew Chief that won 31 races for Shelby American in 1966). Tichener, ISBN0990156557. 7R01A164680 was professionally (and amateur raced) throughout the 1967 Race Season in SCCA Trans-Am and A-Sedan. The car sported number 2,7, and number 8. The paint scheme evolved throughout the year from basic Shelby White to having Day-Glow Orange lower front valance panel, Red and White American Flag Stripes over the roof, Red & Green "LeMans" Striped signifying the VanBeuren Mexican Heritage and an American Flag on the rear quarter panels signifying Kirksey's American roots patriotism. Crow's Landing Trans-Am; Started 8th/finished 7th (best Professional Finish for the car and the team). Riverside Trans-Am; Started/Finished 31st. Stardust Trans-Am; Started/Finished 21st. Kent Washington Trans-Am; DNS. The SCCA Trans-Am race history for 1968; Sebring Trans-Am; Started 9th/Finished 20th. Amateur History; Driven by Allan Moffat as car number 2 in the June 25, 1968 SCCA National Event known as the "Glen Challenge for Manufacturers at Watkins Glen", Watkins Glen, New York, sat in the pole with a track record, set fastest lap and led every lap to WIN. This stellar performance by Moffat led to a professional seat in the BudMoore-prepared Mercury Cougar as a "factory" funded driver/team member to Parnelli Jones, Dan Gurney and Peter Revson. Driven again by Moffat at the Paul Revere 250, Daytona International Raceway, Daytona, Florida on the 3.81 Mile Permanent Road Course for an 11th Place Finish. Sponsored by Amalie Racing Motor Oil with an $8,000 cash and all lubricants provided no charge, DOW Winterset Anti-Freeze and Coolant, LA Roase Racing Engines and tires were furnished No-Charge by Firestone Racing. Raced in 1968 by Freddie VanBeuren, Sponsored by Shelby deMexico and the Bunny Boutique, raced as car Number 78. Sold late in 1968 to a Texas Physician, Dr. Vince Collins and his partners Larry Wilson, Bill Funderbunk and Bill Lawrence. Driving duties were provided by Clooins and Wilson. Raced at the 1970 Daytona 24 Hour event by Collins/Wilson as Number 83, Started 27th/Finished 40th (and was running at the end of the 24 hours). Raced at the 1970 Sebring 12 hour event by Collins/Wilson, Car number 37, Finished 24th/68 cars entered (and was running at the end of the 12 hours). Sold to Neylett (Neil) Potter, Sebring, Florida, March 23,1970. Potter ran both Professional and Amateur Events with 7R01A164680. Painted like a "Tiger" with orange and black stripes, named the "Orange Blossom Special" at Sebring in 1971 with sponsorship from the Florida Orange Grower's and c0-driven by Bob Gray, Terry Keller and Len Magnor, Car number 46, finished 49th/57 starters/DNF at the finish. Raced at the 1972 Sebring 12 Hour Event with Neil Potter, Oran Ansley and Bill Hood as drivers, car number 46, Finished 34/61 cars entered/DNF. Also raced by Potter in Regional and National SCCA A-Sedan races during his ownership. This is a rare opportunity to own a very special Shelby. Nach erfolglosen Ferrari Nahme, als Enzo Ferrari hatte den Deal mit Henry Ford II, daß letzterer vor Wut kochen absolut abgeschnitten, wandte sich Ford zu Lola in Großbritannien zu produzieren einen Ferrari nach dem Spiel gegen Langstreckenfahrer . Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Ford und Lola erstellt den mächtigen Ford GT40, die absolut zu schlagen Ferrari in Le Mans 24 mehrfach.

In Europa führte Ford einige der epischen Rennen und Rallye-Autos der 60er Jahre auf der Grundlage bescheidenen Familie Limousinen; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam und Escort 1600RS mit den ikonischen Cosworth BDA Motoren.
