LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible

The Shelby Mustang was built in the early years by Shelby American /Shelby Automotive. The GT500 was the top of the line Grand Touring muscle car of the day with very distinctive styling from the standard Mustang stable. A 1969 Shelby advertisement had the heading of ‘Fire and Refinement’ and suggested ‘the Shelby, a very special kind of car…GT350 or the GT500…designed for rapid transit in the utmost comfort and luxury’. The '69 and '70 Shelby Mustangs were built entirely at the Ford Plants. The Ford marketing team wanted to achieve more brand recognition through these extremely popular Shelby machines along with their own special high performance Boss and Mach 1 Mustangs. These next generation Shelby Mustang GTs were either the 351 cu in equipped GT350 or the GT500 with Ford’s mega 428 block. The 428CJ performance was a very respectable quarter mile in 14 seconds at 102 mph. The 1969 model year received an extensive face lift with the body increasing in length by 4 inches. Up front, the dual headlights now sat within the full width/deep recessed Black Grill with the Snake in the right corner. The distinctive hood had the air duct system for cooling the engine with five ‘NACA ducts’ as they were known providing three inlets and two outlet vents. Out back, a contoured body spoiler that has a Black recessed full-width insert having the Shelby name in chrome letters. Below the Rear Spoiler is the distinctive styling of full width tail lights. Also the dual exhaust exited from a special cast unit that rose up the center of the rear roll pan. Overall this new exterior look was long and low with racy styling and looks. In 1969 there were 1536 GT500 Fastbacks that rolled off the assembly line and the most expensive and rarest GT500 was the Convertible model with only 335 produced.

This Shelby GT500 Convertible was scheduled for and built on time for March 5, 1969. The Shelby was originally shipped to Luke Bolton Ford, a High Performance dealer located in Plantation, Florida, on March 26, 1969. This Factory Code B Royal Maroon Convertible, as noted in the Shelby Registry on pages 894 and 1127, began life with a MSRP of $5270.37.. It left the factory with the extremely desirable R-Code, Super Cobra Jet 428 Ram Air power plant that delivered an understated 335HP and optioned with with the desirable 4-Speed Close Ratio Manual Transmission.

The SCJ featured a “Drag Pack”, which the Marti Report confirms this car was ordered with. Complete with the optional “V” Code, 3.91 Traction-Lok Axle, accompanied by the factory external Oil Cooler located in front of the radiator (which relocated the dual horns to the right side of the radiator). The tires are correct Goodyear Polyglas GT raised white letter mounted on Shelby-unique five-spoke wheels enhancing overall curb appeal of these Shelby cars.. Mandatory options to ensure the Shelby provided the road handling ability were power front disc brakes, rear drum brakes and power steering. Other features and conveniences noted in the Marti Report include: Tinted Glass – Complete, GT Equipment Group, Visibility Group, Interior Décor Group Deluxe, Rim-Blow Power Steering, race inspired Roll Bar with Shoulder Harness, Sport Deck Rear Seat, Fog Lights, Tach, Clock, Driver-Remote/Dual Body-Colored Racing style Mirrors as well as the Oil/Amp gauges in the Full Console.
This is a very unique and special opportunity to own the most coveted, desirable and sought after of the Shelby Convertibles. At the height of the muscle car horsepower wars, Chrysler had the Hemi Cuda convertible, General Motors had the LS6 Chevelle convertible and the ultimate Ford was the Super Cobra Jet Shelby convertible. Of all makes and marques Fords are the most easy documented as the Fords records are publicly available. As well, Shelby American Automobile Club provides public and in depth documentation to owners, potential buyers and enthusiasts alike. Thus this leads to the elimination of imposters, giving real production numbers, real documents, as well as actual and credible facts. Though all these resources, Ford and Shelby documentation alike, agree this car is the only 4 speed Super Cobra Jet convertible in Royal Maroon produced making it truly, one of one
