Shelby, a Texan and longtime racer, saw the potential to slay Corvettes with the Mustang and created the high performance Shelby “GT 350″. How did the car come to be named a GT 350? Most automotive historians claim that the inspiration came from a discussion at Shelby American while trying to come up with a name. Carroll Shelby is said to have inquired how many feet it was from the office to the workshop buildings. After measuring a distance of 350 feet, the car was called a Shelby Mustang GT350. 1967 marked the start of the second generation of Mustang, in which the Fastback body design was first featured. This Fastback look became a part of the iconic Mustang. Upscale, professional and well off, the buyers Shelby and Ford targeted wanted performance at their disposal but also demanded their performance cars be comfortable and reliable daily drivers. The 1967 Shelby Mustangs came with the full complement of scoops as well as unique fiberglass hood, nose and rear deck. The 15x7 wheels were standard with the Goodyear Speedway tires. For 1967 Shelby Mustangs got progressive rate springs that were comfortable on the freeway but stiffened as they were compressed to give good handling. Over the course of the year 2,048 were built, all in the fastback body style. The Shelby GT500 was the Mustang on steroids with the new big block, a 428 cubic inch Police Interceptor and promptly outsold the 1967 GT350 by nearly two to one. As a result the rarity of the GT350 being 1 of 1,135 is in the mind of collectors today.

This original Shelby GT350 has undergone a fresh no expense spared complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration by Legendary Motorcar completed just a few months ago and has had only test miles since. This Shelby came off the Ford San Jose Assembly Plant on May 1, 1967 and the Shelby American Los Angeles plant production completion date was May 22, 1967. This was just months before Ford’s corporate decision to have production shift from Shelby American’s LA facility to Michigan to be closer to the Ford headquarters. Originally shipped on June 7, 1967 to the Ford High Performance Dealer of Harr Motor Co. in Worcester MA and was then traded to Larson Ford, White Plains NY. It was sold from there to its original owner B. Gadansky July 27 1967. The Shelby American World Registry goes on to explain that this Shelby GT350 was outfitted from the factory in stunning and highly sought after Night Mist Blue exterior. It is powered by its original “K” code 289-4V 306hp Hi-Performance engine with its original 4-Speed Manual Transmission. Other Shelby features and options noted in the Marti Report are; AM Radio, Clock, PS, PB, under dash mounted Oil/Amp Gauges, 140 Speedo, 8000 RPM Tach, Courtesy Light Group, Interior Décor Group, Driver Remote Mirror, Day/Night Rearview Mirror, very unique 1967 Shelby only wood rimmed Steering Wheel, Fold-Down Rear Seat, race inspired Roll Bar with shoulder Harness and Shelby Kelsey Hayes Magstar Wheels with proper white lettered Goodyear Speedway poly glass tires.

Also, of course listed in the latest SAAC Registry 4th Edition on pages 848 and 1054.
