Plymouth Sedan 350 cubic inch V8 1931

Allgemeine Beschreibung : Spectacular pro-built rod for the guy with a family. Best of everything, 100% steel bodywork, 350 Chevrolet crate motor, automatic transmission, cold A/C, stereo, ultraleather seats by Johnny Miller, and much more. A beautiful and unusual rod that easily stands out in a crowd.

You don’t see a lot of 4-door sedan rods out there simply because they’re difficult to build if you want something radical like the 5-inch chop on this Plymouth. Plymouths themselves are also kind of unusual and we like the more substantial look of this two-tone sedan compared to, say, a Ford Model A. Like all the best rods, this one has a long list of tricks that are virtually invisible, a testament to the builder’s work and his ability to seamless blend old and new. For instance, the top was chopped five inches, but it was also filled using a 1962 Plymouth station wagon roof—check out the stiffness-adding beads running down the center. The rear window is from a 1933 Plymouth sedan, which is a small change that may not seem significant until you see a stock one. There’s also a custom 3-piece hood with power assist that tilts forward at the touch of a button and a custom fairing over the polished stainless gas tank in back. The paint is PPG Black Violet Pearl over Viper Yellow with some custom airbrushed graphics—nothing too radical, mind you, so it’ll never look out of date. Big commercial-style headlights suite the scale of the car and you’ll note even the running boards are steel with subtle polished stainless reinforcements. In fact, everything that wasn’t painted was polished. Someone was minding the details when this one went together.

The interior is gorgeous Blueberry ultraleather stitched by noted expert Johnny Miller. Custom buckets up front make it all-day comfortable and the rear bench has been replaced with a custom creation that emulates a pair of buckets but fold down for storage—nice! You’ll note that the paint extends to the door jambs and the theme continues on the door panels inside, which is a really nice touch. Gauges are by Dakota Digital, there’s a polished tilt steering column with a billet wheel, and a Lokar shifter manages the TH400 automatic transmission underneath. A powerful Vintage Air A/C system keeps the big interior cool on the hottest days and entertainment comes from a hidden stereo system featuring iPod connectivity and speakers throughout the interior. The headliner mirrors the ribbed look of the roof for another very cool touch, and there’s plenty of stretch-out room for tall folks, something that’s not so common on street rods. Take a look at the photos and see if you’re not impressed by the workmanship.

Power comes from a 350 cubic inch Chevrolet crate motor rated at about 300 horsepower. There’s an Edelbrock carburetor on top, a Mallory electronic ignition system, and a massive aluminum radiator up front. Everything under the hood has been polished, including the firewall and insides of the hood sides, so you almost need sunglasses to get a good look at the engine itself. It also runs beautifully and has proven reliability, so don’t hesitate to put this rod on the road. The hardware underneath includes a Heidt’s crossmember and independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and coil-over shocks with 2-inch drop spindles for the perfect stance. The transmission is a TH400 3-speed automatic with a modest 2000 RPM stall torque converter and you’ll note that even the transmission case has been polished. A custom polished stainless exhaust system was beautifully fabricated by Buscher Racing and features a single oval exit under the passenger side running board, and even the driveshaft and all the hard lines have been polished. It’s just beautifully detailed and shows almost zero signs of use despite 3600 miles on the build. Out back there’s a Ford 9-inch full of 3.23 gears and a limited slip differential and it hangs on a set of Koni coil-overs assisted by leaf springs for an easy ride. Polished Boyd Coddington wheels look awesome and carry 205/70/14 front and 235/70/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials.

We haven’t seen many rods detailed to this level and there’s an astronomical amount of money involved in the build. Best of all, it’s totally sorted, bulletproof reliable, and ready to cruise or show at almost any level. If you like the idea of a little extra space and having a car that’s not like everyone else’s, take a closer look at this awesome Plymouth sedan. You can’t help but be impressed. Call today!
