This 1970 Pontiac GTO Tribute Convertible Restomod is what a cool custom classic is all about. There's slick blue paint, terrific bodywork, an A/C interior, fresh components everywhere (even under the car), four-wheel disc brakes, a six-speed, and much more. And the rumble you hear comes from upgraded fuel-injected power.
There's less than 300 miles on this build, and the freshness really shows. The blue paint was laid down with a professional hand. So the deep gloss and metallic element love the sunshine, And when the sunlight finds this drop-top, it does a terrific job of highlighting the straight sheetmetal. The bright bezels, rockers, and rear bumper add to the shine with the kind of quality we love in a true American classic. Now upgraded to a GTO, this one gets all the aggressive details right, too. You have the hallmark color-matched Endura front end, large hood scoops, quad exhaust tips, and the large rear spoiler of a true power machine. And those 18-inch modern Rocket alloys do a good job of looking upgraded while not straying too far from some Pontiac designs. So it doesn't look out of place, and that really tells us this was a thoughtfully upgraded classic.
The black canvas roof has a fresh look against the blue paint, and with the flip of a switch, it powers down to show off an even more impressive interior. After all, you still get the look of a sharp black, but now you also get to share all the upgrades with the world. It starts with a set of upgraded leather seats. They say GTO in the seatback because these were borrowed from the latest generation. So you get plenty of modern bolstering for all-day comfort, and the buckets individually power adjust to your ideal setting. The door panels, dash, and carpeting all have a look of quality, and so it makes this a nice place to spend some time. Plus, you can keep everyone happy with modern features like the AM/FM/CD stereo w/Bluetooth, cup holders, and R134a air conditioning. But the best treats are reserved just for the driver. You get a Hurst shifter, classic Trans Am sports steering wheel, power steering, and a full Dakota Digital upgraded gauge package with large speedo and handy tach.
One look under the hood, and you know they gave the best to this custom. You're looking at a 350 cubic-inch LS1 V8 - just like what first came in the final generation of the GTO. In fact, this modern fuel-injected motor even has color-matched GTO covers to make it look like it belonged here since day one. But before this went in, there was plenty of work done to the V8. It includes Comp Cams Torquer V2 camshaft with matching valve springs, LS6 refurbished cylinder heads, LS6 Factory intake manifold, and all new gaskets. It's supported by the right pieces, including a new GM timing chain, new oil pump, and a Griffin aluminum radiator with thermostatically controlled electric fans. This mighty V8 inhales deeply with a cold air intake, and Dougs ceramic coated headers let it exhale with a worthy rumble. This is a terrific power package that to you have full control over thanks to the six-speed manual transmission that features a Monster Transmissions billet flywheel and McLeod hydraulic throwout bearing. As you look underneath, this has a tidy presentation that also shows you it's a total performance build. There are tubular A-arms up front, a Hotchkis six-bar rear, KYB shocks, and Hotchkis sway bars at both ends. A big power machine also needs stopping force, so there's upgraded four-wheel power disc brakes with drilled & slotted rotors and the modern grip of Toyo Proxes T1 Sport tires.
