Sunbeam Alpine 1961

Allgemeine Beschreibung : A historic racecar of distinction. Presented today, numbered and liveried as it was when competing in the March 1963 Sebring 12 Hours Endurance Race. Thomas Harrington Ltd of Hove modified the standard convertible Rootes Talbot Alpine, under licence to the manufacturers, producing a two door coupe. In addition they offered three stages of engine tune to further enhance the cars sporting performance. Such cars were marketed as SUNBEAM HARRINGTON ALPINE. Chassis No. B9106097, one of only a handful made in Left Hand Drive configuration, was purchased new in 1961 by wealthy gentleman racer Fillipo Theodoli. His personal specification was Carnival Red coachwork and the engine tuned to Harringtons Stage III. It is said that Theodoli travelled to Old Shoreham Road, Hove, to take delivery in person. Campaigned extensively throughout the 1962 and 1963 seasons the car ran as a Works Rootes entry in 1962 as well as the under the NART team in 1963, most notably at the 12th Annual 12 Hours of Sebring, in March of that year. In July 1963 B9106097 was purchase by Bob Avery who enjoyed it in road trim for almost fifty years until his death in 2012. Custody subsequently transferred to only the third owner, becoming part of a private collection in the UK. Here is a rare opportunity to own an exceptional car, of such provenance that its invitation to enter every major historic motoring event worldwide, is virtually guaranteed. It has a confirmed entry to the Goodwood GRRC73 meeting at Goodwood in March 2015. The entry fee is paid and the owner is allowed to act as the ‘Patron’ and nominate the driver, so no problem if someone wants to buy the car on condition that they can race the car at this prestigious meeting. Not many cars at this price level can get into as many races as this!
