It was Audi's first "RS" vehicle, and the first of their high-performance Avants (Audi's name for an estate car or station wagon); it used the most powerful and most thoroughly developed version of Audi's inline-five cylinder turbocharged internal combustion engine, based on a unit that Audi already produced, although Porsche considerably modified the engine. With a lot of power, the accelerations and top speed were fantastic , despite weighing almost 1,600 kg (3,500 lb). A three-spoke leather steering wheel, Recaro sports-bucket seats (full leather or leather/suede), and console materials in either wood orcarbon fiber trim rounded out the vehicle's interior changes. Approximately 2200 RS2s were to be built initially, but due to demand the total was 2891 cars built. Audi Automobil GmbH Zwickau grundades av August Horch och hans partners. I augusti 1928 var en majoritet av aktierna i Audiwerke AG förvärvas av Jørgen Rasmussen, ägaren av Dampf-Kraft-Wagen (DKW) 1932 Audi gick samman med Horch, DKW och Wanderer, för att bilda Auto Union. Auto Union använde de fyra sammanlänkade ringarna som sin logotyp, Audi emblem i dag, som representerar dessa fyra varumärken.Efter kriget hade Daimler-Benz tagit 100% av aktierna i Auto Union företaget by1959. Genom mitten av sextiotalet hade de bestämt sig för att sälja till Volkswagen -a besluts Mercedes måste beklagligt nu. Enligt VW-kontroll de tog tvåtakts DKW F102, försett den med en modern Mercedes utformade fyrtaktsmotor et voilá en ny modern Audi hade uppstått. Resten är, som man säger, historia.
