Exterior
The Jet Black paintwork looks stunning paired with the full M Sport bodykit and factory two-piece alloy wheels. Having just been treated to a full detail and machine polish the body maintains a deep glossy shine with no swirl marks to report. She’s lovely and straight along both sides and, having clearly been garaged when not in use, there is no corrosion to be found in any of the common E31 weak spots. In line with the mileage there is an honest dusting of small chips but certainly nothing to detract from the car’s overall highly impressive finish. The underside is also remarkably tidy having previously benefitted from a professional underseal and cavity wax to further preserve its amazing condition.

Interior
The interior of the 840 is awash with supple grey Nappa leather. The upholstery has worn really well with no damage or major wear to speak of, even to the driver’s bolster which in this case hints at only light use. Glancing across the dash the M-stitched leather steering wheel remains in excellent condition, and the console switchgear is also remarkably unworn. The rear seats appear to have seen little use, and the footwell carpets are still protected by the original velour overmats. At the rear of the car the spacious boot area is clean and tidy, neatly housing the CD changer, toolkit, and spare wheel beneath the carpet.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 4.4-litre V8 delivers 282hp and gives the 840Ci a 0-60mph time of just 6.8 seconds. Considering its large size and hefty power output, the M62 engine is surprisingly economical given its 2.81:1 final drive ratio; at 70mph the engine turns over at a lazy 2,200rpm. The under-bonnet area of this particular example presents exceptionally well, perfectly in line with the low mileage of 56k. The car further benefits from a bespoke stainless steel exhaust which sounds fantastic and certainly adds to the sense of occasion out on the open road.
Reading through the accompanying history file it’s clear this one has always been well maintained. There are 15 stamps in the original maintenance booklet and the last service was the big Inspection II that was done very recently in January 2023 at 56,765 miles.
History File
This attractive 840Ci in desirable Sport guise was first registered in June 1997. It has now driven just 56k miles from new in the hands of only 6 registered keepers. The accompanying History File is complete with the original BMW document pack, owner’s manuals, stamped service booklet, a raft of maintenance invoices, MOT certificates, and the spare key. A cossetted example in excellent condition throughout, freshly MOT’d and ready to be enjoyed.

Bayerische Motoren Werke, allmänt känt som BMW, har en rik historia som sträcker sig tillbaka till grundandet 1916. Ursprungligen etablerat som en flygmotortillverkare under första världskriget, ställdes BMW inför restriktioner när det gällde flygplansproduktion efter kriget. Som svar på detta skiftade företaget 1923 fokus till motorcykeltillverkning, vilket markerade början av deras deltagande inom bilindustrin. En framstående modell från denna tid är BMW 327, som introducerades 1937. 327 fanns tillgänglig som både coupé och cabriolet och visade företagets engagemang för lyx och stil. Dessutom nådde BMW framgångar inom sportbilsracing under denna period, särskilt med modellen BMW 328. BMW tävlade med 328 i olika racingevenemang, inklusive det prestigefyllda Mille Miglia, där företaget introducerade flera aerodynamiska specialmodeller.
