For those of you longing for a return of good old American luxury cars, vehicles like this 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham are probably the best you can hope for today. With just 89,222 believed original miles, this is a very well-maintained original car that definitely delivers that pillow-plush ride and super silent ride that so many of us loved.
Very appealing Light Royal Blue paint doesn't hurt, either, and few late-model cars are as recognizable as this long light blue sedan. The chiseled lines and formal padded roof screamed "CADILLAC!" loud and clear and nothing else on the roads (then and now) can measure up to its awesome 18-foot length. That's original paint and there's just no doubt that this car has low mileage, because it's in very impressive condition for being 36 years old. The doors fit beautifully and still need a good slam because of the extra-thick seals that keep out noise. The tall rear bumpers and taillights recall tailfins of the past, and the only real demerit on the exterior of the car are some light scratches found upon closer examination, which are common on these cars and could be drastically improved with a professional cut-and-buff detail job. A single pinstripe and fender-to-fender profile trim highlights the car's length, and despite its luxury car look, the use of chrome is fairly restrained. Well, it's restrained for a Cadillac, that is. And I, for one, really love to see it with the padded roof (still an expensive option in 1984), which adds a touch of sophistication to his beautiful luxury 4-door.
The blue cloth interior is likewise all original and offers a slightly darker contrast to the light blue paint outside. Aside from some minor comfort marks on the driver's seat, it's remarkably well-preserved with soft, tufted, pillow-top hides and nice carpets that have obviously always been protected by floor mats all their lives. The instrument panel wears some of GM's finest faux lumber but the controls are pretty easy to figure out and use, from the automatic climate control to the power windows to your left. Heck, this one's so original, even the factory AM/FM/cassette "Symphony Sound" stereo head unit's still in the dash and has a pleasing, warm tone that feels luxurious to your ears, and the factory air conditioning system is still blowing cold air int the cabin. Options are plentiful as well, including power seats, locks, and windows, along with cruise control and a comfortable original steering wheel that's mounted atop a tilt column. There's huge stretch out space in back that you just can't get in any car today and the seating surfaces look virtually new. And yes, the trunk is giant and is still wearing its original carpet and full-size spare tire and jack set.
Cadillac's 4.1 liter V8 was used practically across the board in most models, and if it's properly maintained like this one, it has proven itself to be reliable, smooth, and torquey. The car's mass doesn't seem to bother it and few cars can cruise the highways better than this. It's obviously very nicely maintained with only signs of service parts having been replaced in the past, so it runs beautifully and doesn't complain about today's fuels. It starts easily and idles so smoothly you'll have to check yourself before hitting the starter for a second time, and combined with a 200-4R 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, it actually gets decent fuel economy, too (well, at least for a giant luxury car, that is). The chassis is ultra-clean, indicative of a low-mile car that's always been treated well, and the single exhaust system offers just a muted hum to suggest life under the hood. Stylish wired hubcaps and 215/75/15 Hankook whitewall radials complete the timeless luxury car look.
If there's more sheetmetal for the money anywhere else, I'd be shocked. Get some A-list transportation for the cost of some imported clunker and take this classic Fleetwood Brougham home today!
