LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1960 Chevrolet El Camino.

The Chevrolet El Camino is the automobile based coupé utility/pickup that was produced in 1959–60 and 1964-87. The first generation was based on the full size Chevy and introduced as a more highly stylized response to the success of the more conservative styled Ford Ranchero. The El Camino design had been influenced by the earlier introduction of Chevrolet's Cameo pickup and similar Dodge, Ford, and International pickups offering passenger-car styling features like flush-side cargo boxes with fiberglass rear fenders, two-tone paint, a relatively luxurious interior for the times, as well as an optional V8 engine, automatic transmission, and power assists. As a result, the market timing seemed right this time even though the concept was not new given the Studebaker Coupé Express and the stylish Hudson utility coupe pickups of the 30’s and 40’s. The initial El Camino was based on the new-for-1959 full-sized Chevrolet Brookwood two-door station wagon that was now longer, lower and wider. The similar but less flamboyant 1960 model started at $2366 for the six-cylinder model; another $107 for a Turbo-Jet 283V8 two-barrel. Its chassis featured Chevrolet's "Safety-Girder" X-frame design and a full-coil suspension on a 119-inch wheelbase. The softer passenger car suspension of the El Camino gave it a lower profile look in contrast to the Ranchero where standard HD rear springs gave it a distinct rake when empty. Interestingly the El Camino was promoted as the first Chevrolet pickup built with a steel bed floor instead of wood which was a corrugated sheet metal insert providing box capacity of almost 33 cubic feet. It came in a single trim level, its exterior using the mid-level Bel-Air's trim with that series' bright chrome "jet" appliqué and narrow trailing molding used to accent the rear quarters with the interior having the Biscayne/Brookwood appointments.

This long, low and sleek 1960 El Camino is eye catching in the Roman Red with White Roof Top. Paint is in very good condition in terms of depth and clarity. These first generation El Caminos were known for the stylish flare of the design lines. The passenger cabin has front and rear wrap-around glass with a roof top having swept-back style overhanging the rear window. The pickup box has a chrome surround trim on the top edge of the box. The tailgate is certainly an artistic highlight of this car with the toned down ‘bat-wing fins’, the double taillights at either end of the stainless flash panel above the chrome bumper. Inside the Red interior, as per the cowl tag, has the Red Vinyl Bench Seat with a striped pattern cloth insert in complimentary Red and White that also matches the door panel insert. As per the trend back in the day the bench seat is covered in the familiar protective clear plastic. Behind this bench seat is a surprising amount of good inside storage room. The driver has a Red and White two-tone steering wheel with the Impala-Crossed Flag emblem in the center of the chrome horn control. The bright red dash has a dimpled metal flashing along the bottom. The original dash is in wonderful condition and sports a modern Radio/Cassette player tucked into the radio slot. Under the hood is the classic little workhorse the 283-cid V8 rated at 170 HP connected to the chrome-ball 4-Speed Manual floor shifter. Power is delivered to the white wall Coker Tires around the full ‘Spinner caps’. Undercarriage of the car is clean and reflects the solid driver this El Camino has been.
This Roman Red 1960 Chevrolet El Camino has that stylish flare that made these car based pickups so wildly popular back then and still has that ability to attract a crowd today.

Överraskande, "Amerikas enda sportbil" Corvette infördes i Chevrolet varumärke snarare än sina egna.
