Featuring a cool, mid-'80s vibe and understated but abundant curb appeal, this 1983 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, with only 46,242 miles on the clock, is a member of the first generation of its nameplate to carry the Super Sport designation and will pull into its next lucky owner's garage complete with maintenance records to document the care it's received, its original factory build sheet, and a clean history report.
This Monte Carlo makes a strong first impression. It features several styling cues by virtue of its Super Sport status that are not found on its garden variety counterparts, including an aggressive front fascia featuring blackened headlight casings and grille, mono-chrome coloring that's effectively offset by the deep black rubber of the body trim running the circumference of the car, and a rear spoiler on the decklid. Despite its 35 years of service, it's a fresh, capable looking car. Its still-original white exterior is clean and carries an even shine, the glass on all four sides is clear, and the SS decals on its front fenders remain sharp. You won't even find the customary rock chips on its front bumper. Having avoided any notable collisions during its lifetime, this Chevy proudly carries its precise body alignment, with doors, hood and decklid that open and shut smoothly, and body panels that sit flush with nice, even gaps between them - very impressive!
The blue and white interior is well preserved, with a split bench seat in front that features Super Sport branding on its headrests and a convenient fold down armrest, and a bench seat in back. Both show only very light wear and are well-padded and comfortable. Take a look in back and you'll see that your backseat passengers will have all the legroom they'd need, even for lengthy journeys. The dash area remains in impressive original condition, with an assortment of gauges sitting in the instrument cluster that are still very readable behind crystal clear lenses, its decorative expanse of wood burl unfaded, and a straight blue dash pad just above that shows nary a crack. The comfort features you'd want in a car like this are present and accounted for, including power windows that roll up and down smoothly, air conditioning that remains at the top of its game, cruise control and a tilt steering column. Raise the deck lid to find a clean and spacious trunk area that's capable of handling a lot of luggage, with a factory spare tire sitting securely stowed to the side.
Sitting underneath the hood is the original 305 cubic inch V8 that's topped with a 4-barrel carburetor and mated with a durable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. The rear end features 3.42 gears that affords a good blend of strong off the line acceleration and practical highway speed RPMs. Benefitting from both the good care it's received and the low mileage its logged, the drivetrain is in great shape and runs with all the smoothness you'd want in a frequent driver. You'll also find this Monte Carlo to be plenty nimble, as it comes with heavy duty shocks and firm springs in front and back for improved cornering, as well as power brakes that will bring it to a stop in short order. This great looking, mid-'80s Chevy sits on a set of 15"stock Chevy rims outfitted with Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires.
