Ferrari 288 GTO GTO 1985

Allmän beskrivning : The Ferrari 288 GTO is one of the most famous and recognisable prancing horses ever made and the first in the line of 'special series' production cars. Created as a homologation version of a 308 GTB, the 288 was reportedly produced for Ferrari to compete in Group B racing, with only 272 examples being made from 1984-1986. However, Group B was scrapped and the GTO was never to compete. All 272 examples produced remained as purely road cars and all were finished in Rosso Corsa from factory, except for one example which was Black.Despite never racing, the car that was left behind is still one of the most remarkable looking and iconic road cars ever produced. The 288 GTO is powered by a longitudinally mounted 2.9-litre twin turbocharged V8, pushing out around 400bhp, enough to accelerate the car from 0-60 mph in 5 seconds flat and on to a top speed of 189 mph, making it one of the fastest road-legal cars of its era. The 288 also received a 5-speed racing transmission, a wider track and wheels, and a lightweight body comprised of aluminium and fiberglass. With just 272 examples produced during its 2 year period, the 288 GTO is the rarest of the hailed 'Ferrari Big 5', with the cars that followed, the F40, F50, Enzo, and La Ferrari all being made to higher production numbers.The car we are delighted to offer was delivered new in July 1985 to France via concessionaire Ferrari West Europe Levallois Perret. It was supplied in the iconic Rosso Corsa over Nero Leather colourway, which it still wears today. The car was a 1 owner car right up until 2015 when it was purchased by a well-known U.K. collector and was placed into storage to form part of his collection, covering just 300km since. The 1st owner of this example was the owner of the Monaco Ferrari dealership and as a result the car has lived a no-expense spared life, with all service stamps coming from official Ferrari main dealer service centres.The car maintains its original tool kits, spare wheel, user manual, as well as its original service booklet. This 288 GTO presents incredibly well and is showing just over 9,000 miles from new. The car was also awarded with red book Classiche Certification in 2015, confirming its originality and quality. This car offers the rare opportunity to obtain a fantastic, low mileage example of arguably one of the most important and sought after Ferraris ever built!

Den första Ferrari väg bil var de 125 S introducerades 1947 och drivs av en 1,5 L V12 motor, eller hur?
Tja det är inte riktigt så enkelt, Ferrari faktiskt producerar e Tipo 815, 1940 Tipo 815 ritades av ex-Alfa Romeo ingenjörer Alberto Massimino och Vittorio Bellentani och Enrico Nardi enligt Enzo sällskap men juridiska frågor med det tidigare intresse Alfa Romeo hindrade Ferrari från att lansera Ferrari marque vid den punkten.

Under ytspänningen växte dock. I November 1961 erfaren försäljningschef Girolamo Gardini gjorde ett ultimatum till Enzo: om spänningar fortsatte skulle han lämna företaget. Som ett resultat var Gardini avsattes, liksom Scuderia Ferrari manager Romolo Tavoni, överingenjör Carlo Chiti, experimentell sportbil utveckling chief Giotto Bizzarrini, och ett antal andra, som stod vid dem.
Utan Chiti och Bizzarrini utvecklingen av vad som skulle bli den mest kvintessensen Ferrari och idag världens dyraste bil, 250 GTO, var vid en svängpunkt. 250 GTO projekt räddades av en ung ingenjör Mauro Forghieri och lång tid racing bodyman Sergio Scaglietti som klev in och tog över programmet med kända resultat.

I slutet av 60-talet Ferraris prototyper framgång fick ett abrupt stopp av en ny konkurrent, GT40. Ford vände sig till Lola för att producera en Ferrari slog långdistans racer efter Enzo hade klippt affären av med Henry Ford II gör det senare absolut koka av vrede. Samarbetet mellan Ford och Lola skapade den mäktiga Ford GT40 som gav Ferrari några tunga hits i Le Mans 24 framöver.
I slutet av 60-talet FIAT köpte 50% av bolaget, med start en utveckling som har lett till en ny massproducerade era av Ferraris.
