We sell a lot of Mustangs and it’s easy to understand why. They’re the ideal hobby car: fun, attractive, easy to maintain, and practical to live with day-to-day. Plus Mustangs are iconic—there’s just nobody who doesn’t love a vintage Mustang and they are treated like celebrities everywhere you go. It’s a great combination. This awesome Springtime Yellow Mustang GT coupe gets everything right. The restoration is maybe 5 years old (we don’t know who did it or when) and it’s in just the right condition for driving and enjoying. Springtime Yellow with the black vinyl roof is how this car was originally equipped, and with the black GT stripes along the rockers, it looks fantastic. Paint and bodywork are extremely nice, with doors that close with a solid sound and no evidence that it was ever rusty or wrecked—those are original quarter panels and front fenders. There’s a great gloss to the paint and very few signs of use, testament to the care it has received over the years. We also like the bright chrome bumpers and other trim, all of which is in great shape. It’s difficult to confirm the genuineness of early GTs like this, but it certainly has all the right equipment, including the front fog lights, rocker stripes, and trumpet exhaust tips coming through the rear valence, as well as the little details that are harder to copy (the floor exhaust brackets, HCC AX quick-ratio steering box, and rear frame reinforcements). It looks friendly yet competent, and that’s how it runs.

The standard black interior is a great place to spend some time. Not a lot of options, but there’s fresh upholstery, new carpets, a new steering wheel, and fully operational gauges. The seats have fresh foam inside, so they’re supportive and comfortable and the Mustang was the first car where seat belts were standard equipment. The gauges are probably original, as is the center console, but everything works except the aftermarket radio, which we have not investigated. The dash pad isn’t cracked, the headliner is in excellent shape, and fresh Mustang-logo rubber floor mats help keep things tidy. The coupe offers a good-sized trunk with a correct plaid mat, spare tire cover, and jack bag, so it’s outfitted properly.

Mustang GTs came standard with the A-code 289 cubic inch V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, which teamed up to make 225 horsepower. This one runs beautifully, starting easily, idling well, and pulling the lightweight coupe around with genuine authority. It’s strong! There’s an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor in place of the original Autolite unit plus a Pertronix electronic ignition system, but those are the only notable deviations from original spec. A Monte Carlo bar was added between the shock towers to reinforce the front structure and thanks to a big radiator up front, it stays cool even in traffic. A few chrome dress up items look great under the hood, along with Ford Blue engine enamel and correct tower hose clamps, so someone was sweating the details when this one went together. Underneath there’s a rumbling dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers that sound great, along with very clean original floors, undamaged torque boxes, and factory spot welds visible on the rockers. The front suspension has been recently rebuilt so it tracks well and there are correct front disc brakes and 13/16 front sway bar, adding more evidence to the fact that this is a real GT. The C4 3-speed automatic transmission spins an 8-inch rear end with 3.00 gears inside, so it’s a relaxed cruiser with plenty of punch when you need it. There’s also a recent gas tank, newer shocks, and 195/70/14 white-letter radials on beautiful styled steel wheels.

We drive a lot of Mustangs and this one measures up. In fact, we spent a week in Hershey, PA at the giant show and swap meet and this was the car we used to commute around town. It always started right up, it cruises easily at modern highway speeds, and it’s comfortable to drive. What else can you ask for from a hobby car? Mustang var så populär tävlingen var tvungen att följa Fords exempel och ponycar fenomenet tog över USA. Under åren ponnyer växte några muskler tills oljekrisen döda äntligen dödat dem.

På sextiotalet rusade Ford i internationell motorsport scenen med en raseri. Efter misslyckade Ferrari övertagande, då Enzo Ferrari hade klippt affären av med Henry Ford II gör det senare absolut koka av vrede, vände Ford till Lola i Storbritannien för att producera en Ferrari slog långdistans racer efter. Samarbetet mellan Ford och Lola skapade den mäktiga Ford GT40 som absolut slog Ferrari i Le Mans 24 flera gånger.

I Europa införde Ford några av de mest episka race och rallybilar av 60-talet som bygger på ödmjuka familj sedaner; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, och Escort 1600RS med de ikoniska Cosworth BDA motorer.
