Porsche 911 RSR 1998

Allmän beskrivning : One of just 30 993 RSRs, one owner and less than 9k miles.

MODEL HISTORY

The 3.8 RSRs are built upon the Cup Chassis (M001) but are designated with their own engine type number and were developed from the 993 RS concept. These cars were initially built for the All Japan GT series, however, this series never actually materialised. Porsche then tried to reposition the cars for the IMSA supercar series, but that series also fell apart. They were also positioned for endurance racing (e.g. Le Mans), unfortunately this also failed. As a result the cars were predominantly sold as race cars to either Japan or the U.S. for racing and/or collecting. Engine types were M64/70 (cup racing), M64/75 (Le Mans spec endurance racing) and M64/80 (U.S. spec endurance racing) indicating just how far and in how many ways Porsche tried to repurpose this car.

Being 1 of just 30 units produced by Porsche (including 13 units for the U.S) these extremely rare and sought after models are the pinnacle of the normally aspirated air-cooled 911s, the last of the last!

Equipment

EPA-NHTSA Certification, Passenger seat, Air Lance, Safety Belts, Exhaust Tubes, 3.8 RSR CL wheel nuts, Transport hooks, BBS washers, 4 spare race wheels, Full spares pack.

EXTERIOR

The RSR presents an aggressive appearance with its Clubsport front and rear spoilers (Turnwald), riveted arch extensions and bonnet pins. The Glacier white paintwork (L3AU) remains in excellent order all round and is largely chip free towards the front due to the clear paint protection film in place. All body/panel numbers have been checked and verified as original factory parts. Both front headlights are protected by two clear light covers and remain free from cracks or moisture.

INTERIOR

The sparse RSR cabin is an uncompromising place to be, hinting to its performance capabilities. Once you step over the welded cage you sink into the Porsche embossed Recaro bucket seats and held in place by the Sabelt racing harnesses. The interior remains original with all factory welding present and correct. The dashboard and door cards are free from cracks or damage and the deep dish Momo steering wheel shows minimal signs of wear.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The 3.8 RSR powerplant is a ferocious unit, the very best of the air-cooled era, producing a natural 340hp. At first turn of the key the engine fires into life with a deafening roar, spitting flames and idling up to temperature with an aggressive tone. This particular engine type is M64/70, which indicates it was intended for the Cup racing series.

Mated to the 3.8 unit is the five-speed Cup gearbox (G50/30) which handles the engine's fierce delivery perfectly, a very suitable gearbox for track work.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The RSR sits on 18-inch BBS racing wheels. These are centre-bolted, split-rim magnesium wheels finished with a gold centre and polished lip. All the wheels are in good original condition.

The wheels are shod in a set of Michelin slick/track tyres, 25/64-18 fronts and 30/65-18 on the rear. There is also a spare set of BBS wheels shod in a set of wet weather tyres that come with the car. The red Porsche calipers sit behind the BBS spokes, clamped to the ventilated disc brakes that still show plenty of life.

HISTORY FILE

This RSR has had one owner from new and all of the numbers and paperwork have been checked and the car is confirmed as the last RSR produced. It comes with a carefully documented history file containing the following:

1. Original bill of sale
2. Original Porsche 3.8 RSR operating manual
3. Both of the original data stickers that are unused, with the larger sticker showing all the option codes
4. Both spare keys
5. Porsche Club Racing Logbook showing several race wins and some photographs of the car in action
6. All of the invoices have also been kept showing the service work, parts purchased, rolling road readouts and wheel alignment printouts

Amazingly the car also comes with a box filled with all the original spares supplied new with the car as well as the spare set of racing wheels complete with slick tyres.
