Alfa Romeo Montreal Long term ownership, restored condition, stunning! 1975

General description : The Alfa Romeo Montreal: A delicious ultimate “Gran Turismo”. The first impression of this Marcello Gandini penned Italian coupe is impressive as well as beautiful in equal measures. Superficial beauty is however not enough, a fact readily recognised by Alfa. Where the concept Montreal car had a small 4-cylinder, the production car was given a mighty V8 engine. This 2.6 litre V8 was derived from the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and 33 Sports Prototipo Racer V8 engines. The cylinders banks stand at right angles to each other and the engine has dry-sump lubrication which allowed the engine to built in lower and therefore lowering the centre of gravity. The Alfa Romeo Montreal has a limited slip-differential 5-speed ZF transmission box. Our Alfa Romeo Montreal was supplied in 1975 to France. After nearly 20 years the car moved from the south of France to the Netherlands in 1993. This Montreal was restored in the past, and thanks to excellent care and attention it continued to received the Alfa Romeo remains in very good condition. The bodywork is, of course, rust-free with fantastic quality and correctly aligned body panels and wonderful paintwork. The mechanics were not overlooked with the fantastically rebuilt engine running nice and smoothly. With its 1,270 Kg curb weight it should come as no surprise that the V8 still delivers enough oomph to get up the road in a hurry. The Montreal’s good steering and gear change are free from excessive play. The gearbox, differential and the rest of the mechanics have always received the care and attention they deserved. The latter is emphasised by a thick wad of invoices and descriptions of recent works, in addition to documentation relating to the Alfa's early life in the south of France. Although a 50 year-old design this “Argento Metallizzato” Montreal still looks futuristic to this day. The combination with the black leather interior trim only adds to its beauty. We can whole-heartedly recommend this lovely well presented Alfa Romeo Montreal with its top mechanics. One of the better cars available in our opinion! A dry-sump 2.6 litre 90 degrees Alfa Romeo V8 poured into Bertone bodywork as penned by Gandini, what else is there to wish for? About Alfa Romeo Montreal
The Alfa Romeo Montreal is a unique and captivating sports car that holds a special place in automotive history. Here's a brief overview of its development, competition heritage, and design:

Development:
1. Introduction: The Alfa Romeo Montreal was introduced at the 1967 Montreal Expo as a concept car. Due to the positive response, Alfa Romeo decided to put it into production, and it made its official debut in 1970.

2. Competition Heritage: The Montreal's engine was derived from the high-revving V8 engine used in Alfa Romeo's successful 33 Stradale racing car. This connection to motorsport added to the car's allure and performance credentials.

3. Chassis: The Montreal was based on the chassis of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTV coupe, which was considered to be somewhat outdated for a car of its time. However, it was modified and strengthened to accommodate the Montreal's unique design and performance characteristics.

Design:
1. Styling: The Montreal featured a striking and avant-garde design, created by Marcello Gandini at Bertone. Its design cues, such as the prominent hood bulge, NACA ducts, and muscular wheel arches, were reminiscent of its racing heritage.

2. Unique Features: One of the most distinctive design elements of the Montreal was its retractable slotted headlight covers, which added to its sleek and futuristic appearance. The cabin featured a driver-focused cockpit with a blend of classic and modern design elements.

3. Interior: The Montreal's interior boasted a luxurious and well-appointed cabin with unique details, such as the Campagnolo magnesium alloy wheels, wooden dashboard, and stylish leather upholstery.

While the Montreal's chassis may have been considered outdated for its time, its combination of a powerful racing-derived engine, stunning design, and unique features contributed to its appeal. Today, the Alfa Romeo Montreal is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its competition heritage, beautiful design, and limited production numbers. It represents a captivating chapter in Alfa Romeo's history and continues to be celebrated as a true automotive icon.
