American La France Other 1964

General description : The American LaFrance Fire Engine Company was one of the oldest fire apparatus manufacturers in America. With roots that go back to approximately 1832, the companies that went on to become American LaFrance built hand-drawn, horse-drawn, and steam-powered fire engines.
MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to be offering the 1964 American LaFrance 900 Series Pumper Firetruck you see pictured. “Engine 95” is being offered as is – not in running condition. This massive pumper is the wide-cab design, 26′ long and still has a firehouse roll and additional hydrant extensions on the driver’s side. This vehicle did not run when it was brought to us but has been in storage a number of years and will need new batteries, fresh gas and a minimum of the carburetors gone through.
This highly original firetruck is finished in red, with white and chrome accents. The body is solid. As the pumper is mostly original, the paint is original and it shows its age. All of the lights and sirens appear to be intact. The firetruck can has a 700 gallon water tank capacity and can pump up to 750gpm @ 150lbs of pressure.
The interior of the cab is also original, with a driver’s bucket seat and a bench seat across the rest of the cabin. The rear glass window is a slider. The dashboard houses all of the original gauges and Motorola Communications CB radio. It should be noted that the firetruck has an air horn and air brakes.
The LaFrance is powered by a Continental 608 cubic inch, straight six cylinder gas engine, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. Beneath the firetruck sits a Detroit Automotive “No Spin” Differential, model H116 and a set of 20″ wheels wrapped snug in 10.00-20 tires. The firetruck runs on a 12 volt system and requires two 12v batteries.
As mentioned, this legendary LaFrance Firetruck is currently inoperable. The possibilities are endless! Maybe you could be the one to get it restored and back out on the road, possibly as a parade firetruck, for advertisements or even fire education! It comes with an owner’s manual. The VIN is 519708 and the chassis mileage shows 28,751 while the motor mileage shows 44,434. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!

About American La France
American LaFrance was a renowned manufacturer of fire engines, trucks, and other firefighting equipment. While they were not primarily known for producing vehicles meant for super speedsters, some enthusiasts and custom car builders have used vintage fire engine chassis, particularly from American LaFrance, as a base for unique and custom-built cars, including hot rods or unique speedsters.

Here are some reasons why American LaFrance fire engine chassis might be used as a base for custom vehicles:

Sturdy Construction: Fire engine chassis are often built to withstand heavy loads and intense conditions, making them a strong and robust foundation for custom builds.
Ample Space: The large chassis of fire engines can provide ample space for modifications, engine swaps, and customization, allowing builders to create unique designs.
Historical Appeal: Vintage fire engine chassis, such as those from American LaFrance, carry historical significance and unique aesthetics, which some enthusiasts find appealing for custom car projects.
Unique Character: Utilizing a fire engine chassis for a custom build offers a distinctive starting point, often resulting in one-of-a-kind creations that stand out from typical custom vehicles.
While transforming a fire engine chassis into a super speedster or a hot rod involves significant modifications, including altering the chassis, bodywork, and engine upgrades, it can result in a striking and unique vehicle. However, due to the considerable modifications needed, these custom builds require specialized skills, time, and resources. Each project is typically highly individualistic, reflecting the vision and creativity of the builder.
