Bentley 4.25 Litre Derby 4.25 litre Boat tail Special 1936

General description : 1936 Derby Bentley 4.25 Boat Tail Special.

Chassis number: B79GP
Registration: YSV494

Built at vast expense as the ultimate rally car; once completed this car quickly proved its ability by completing the Peking Paris rally coming in amongst the top finishers.  The car comes with massive bills from both noted Builder Bob Petersen & also Fiennes Engineering who built the engine up.  The car has also ben a regular & successful contender in the flying scotsman rally having completed it on a number of occasions.

The engine is a real work of art running on triple carbs as opposed to the more usual twin carb set up & is putting out seious horsepower far above that ever envisaged by the factory.  This makes it a very very fast car by pre war standards.

The aluminium body takes the form of a boat tail two seat tourer with very sporting & rakish lines.  A hood stores under the rear hatch & easily unfolds for inclement weather.  Aluminium cycle style wings are fitted to the four corners.  Twin driving lamps augment the headlamps for night time illumination.  These are powered by a modern alternator.  A custom stainless steel exhaust system is installed engine in a fish tail rear.

This is a fast capable car well known in Bentley circles & built to be the ultimate pre war competition rally car.  The usual rally accessories are fitted to the cockpit including a trip meter.  A tonneau cover secures the cockpit when the car is feft unattended.  A thich sheaf of massive bills comes with the car detailing the large amounts of money spent to create this wonderful car.

About Bentley
Before becoming a mere subsidiary to Rolls-Royce, Bentley was an independent Automaker famous for the "fastest lorries in the world" e.i Bentley 4½ Litre.

Good ol' Bentley boys (A group of wealthy British motorists, mainly Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, S.C.H. "Sammy" Davis, and Dr Dudley Benjafield ) -in their trusty Bentley cars- took four consecutive victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930

In 1931 Bentley was taken over British Central Equitable Trust that later proved to be a front for Rolls-Royce Limited. Unhappy with his role at Rolls-Royce, W.O. Bentley left the company when his contract expired in 1935 duly joining Lagonda. This was beginning of which ultimately led Bentley cars to become more or less badge-engineered Rolls-Royce.
