Bentley R type Type Standard Steel Saloon 1954

General description : 1954 Bentley R Type Standard Steel Saloon

Chassis number B55ZX
Registration number: PLH 783
Mileage shown: 55,528

This Bentley R Type was originally built for the Countess of Bessborough (the wife of the Governor General of Canada), where it spent most of its life at Rowlands Castle. The R Type is in finished in Mason’s Black with Ivory (Pepper White) side panels – much lighter than appears in photographs. Externally the R Type has had minor repairs to the bodywork prior to a full repaint.
Forming part of a small collection it has in recent years seen only small incremental mileages added to its odometer bringing it up to the now indicated (1)55,528 miles from new.
The interior is in very much original condition and has a lovely patina to it with Ivory coloured leather and similarly coloured original lambswool rugs protecting the original carpets to front and aft. The leather is still supple following regular maintenance by the current owners. It would be a shame to reupholster such originality as it adds to the vehicles charm.
B55ZX has been fully serviced every year regardless of mileage. In recent years the R Type has been subject new rear wings and inner wings, steering pivot pins, brake liners and kingpins. - as a result it is an absolute pleasure to drive and feels very correct. The engine is silky smooth and idles beautifully.
The current owner will also fit a new mild steel exhaust within the price. For an extra change this can be upgraded to stainless steel should the new owner wish?
An assortment of bills & correspondence comes with the car, as does a full tool kit. The car sits on four very good Michelin radial tyres.
She runs and drives beautifully and is ready for it’s next custodian. Viewings by appointment only.

About Bentley
Before becoming a mere subsidiary to Rolls-Royce, Bentley was an independent Automaker famous for the "fastest lorries in the world" e.i Bentley 4½ Litre.

Good ol' Bentley boys (A group of wealthy British motorists, mainly Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, S.C.H. "Sammy" Davis, and Dr Dudley Benjafield ) -in their trusty Bentley cars- took four consecutive victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930

In 1931 Bentley was taken over British Central Equitable Trust that later proved to be a front for Rolls-Royce Limited. Unhappy with his role at Rolls-Royce, W.O. Bentley left the company when his contract expired in 1935 duly joining Lagonda. This was beginning of which ultimately led Bentley cars to become more or less badge-engineered Rolls-Royce.
