LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1974 BMW 3.0CSi
The E9 coupe, as it is known today by its internal designation, has become a highly sought-after car that is essentially the post-war standard for an elegant coupe. In 1972, BMW bored out the six to a nominal displacement of three liters and added rear disc brakes, at which point the car became known as the 3.0CS. The Bosch D-Jetronic injected version became the 3.0CSi and a lightweight version was known as the 3.0CSL. The latter was a highly successful European Touring Car racer in the mid-1970s. Neither of the latter two cars were officially imported into the U.S. Gray market examples abound. The last two model years in the U.S. were afflicted with large and unsightly bumpers.
This lovely 1974 was delivered new on June 21st, 1974 to the original selling dealer Bavaria Societa Importazioni e Vendite S.p.A in Verona, Italy. This example has been very nicely restored in the attractive factory Baikal Blue Metallic with a Tan leather interior. It still retains its numbers matching 3.0L six cylinder engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. This E9 coupe was subject to a restoration by a marque expert. The whole car was completely disassembled and stripped to a bare shell. The beautiful Baikal Blue Metallic was painted in base/clear and then wet sanded and polished to a show quality luster. Open the hood and the level of detail is incredible with all the engine components refinished in their factory coatings. The interior has been well re-done with reproduction seat covers, carpet and headliner. A Nardi steering wheel was added and looks tasteful in the cockpit. The standard wheels have been replaced with Alpina items, which we feel really lend themselves to the sporting nature of this 70s GT car.
This amazing E9 coupe is a timeless design with a fantastic restoration in attractive colors. Included in the sale is a copy of the BMW Classic Certificate which documents how it was delivered. Along with the styling, these are amazing cars to use and enjoy!
Bayerische Motoren Werke i.e. Bavarian Motor Works, the automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturing company was founded in 1916, starting as an aircraft-engine manufacturer.
Due to restrictions they shifted to motorcycle production in 1923 and consequently to automobiles in 1928 producing DIXI, effectively Austin 7, licensed from the Austin Motor Company.
In the thirties, BMW produced on of the eras most elegant cars 327, which could be ordered as a coupe or cabriolet. In addition, they campaigned 328 successfully in sports car racing, including Mille Miglia where a number of aerodynamic specials were introduced.
Post war era, saw BMW almost bankrupt before rising to its current status as one of the leading premium brands.
