Het origineel, in 1986 geintroduceerd en bedoeld als homologatie auto waardoor BMW zou worden toegelaten tot de A-groep van de DTM races. Om die voorwaarde te bereiken moesten er minimaal 5000 exemplaren worden gebouwd. Dat lukte ruimschoots, ongeveer 17.000 exemplaren verlieten de BMW fabriek bij München. De M3 werd al snel een rijdende legende dankzij de heerlijk directe besturing, het lage wagengewicht, de perfecte balans en lage Cw waarde. Het ontwerp had nauwelijks lijnen die, hoewel herkenbaar E30, overeen kwamen meet die van de andere E30 modellen. Vooral de aflopende achterruit benadrukte de coupe vorm. Het waren, en zijn, de rijeigenschappen die de auto tot een icoon maakte. Tal van toonaangevende automagazines hebben de E30 M3 in hun top vijf van favoriete rijders auto's staan. Zet een M3 maar eens met wat drift in een mooie bocht, soepeltjes dirigeer je die motor in de richting die je op wilt en zet de auto met één vinger weer recht. Genieten! Geen Q4, RS4 of 190E overtroffen de M3. Het karakter van de M3 maakt de auto uitermate geschikt voor het circuit, het hier aangeboden exemplaar werd in het verleden ook gebruikt voor trackdays. De auto werd daarvoor in het verleden aangepast, de laatste eigenaar besloot de auto in 2022 weer terug te brengen naar haar originele staat en restaureerde deze M3 tot op hoog niveau. Ik heb die wel even getest, ik krijg er nu wéér een glimlach bij. Freude am Fahren!De zgn. Evo 1 is er één uit een beperkt gebouwde serie van slechts 550 exemplaren, hoeveel zullen er daar nog van over zijn? Niet iedere bestuurder kon de M3, gelukkig zonder moderniteiten als traction control, de baas. Het hier aangeboden exemplaar is schadevrij, is prachtig gespoten en beschikt over een interieur zonder gebruikssporen. Nu al een klassieker, met waarde potentieel. Niet een om alleen maar naar te kijken.
