Chevrolet Corvette C1 1962

General description : This Chevrolet Corvette C1, Manufactured in 1962 and then sold in March of 1964. The car was specified with Ermine White exterior paint and Red interior.
The first generation of Corvette was introduced late in the 1953 model year. Originally designed as a show car for the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, it generated enough interest to induce GM to make a production version to sell to the public. First production was on June 30, 1953. 
The 1958 Corvette received a body and interior freshening which included a longer front end with quad headlamps, bumper exiting exhaust tips, a new steering wheel, and a dashboard with all gauges mounted directly in front of the driver. Exclusive to the 1958 model were hood louvers and twin trunk spears. The 1959–60 model years had few changes except a decreased amount of body chrome and more powerful engine offerings.
In 1961, the rear of the car was completely redesigned with the addition of a "duck tail" with four round lights. The light treatment would continue for all following model year Corvettes until 2014. In 1962, the Chevrolet 283 cu in (4.64 L) small-block was enlarged to 327 cu in (5.36 L). In standard form it produced 250 bhp. For an extra 12% over list price, the fuel-injected version produced 360 bhp, making it the fastest of the C1 generation. 1962 was also the last year for the wrap around windshield, solid rear axle, and convertible-only body style. The trunk lid and exposed headlamps did not reappear for many decades.
Trim was removed around coves, features added as standard for the first time included seatbelts and a heater / defroster, although the latter was sometimes omitted by request, typically when the car was to be raced.  This was the first year with a 327 ci V8 as standard, replacing the somewhat lacklustre 283 and its troublesome twin carbs were swapped for a single, four-barrel Carter.  It was to be the final year the Corvette featured a solid axle, external trunk and exposed headlights with the radical C2 redesign the following year.  The improvements resulted in a faster car with better handling. The car features 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Just over 10% of all 1962 models had this $199.10 option, with most owners (almost 78%) opting for the slightly cheaper $188.30 4-speed manual. Power windows, Fewer than 7% of 1962 models had these fitted along with the Wonderbar AM radio. Nearly 90% of 1962 models had this option installed.
The Schwaninger family whom lived in Germany, but fled to Switzerland in 1936 and moved to America in 1937 to escape the Nazis. Charles Schwaninger settled in Palm Harbor, Florida, working for a steel company and had his own radio show, Swanee’s Serenade.  He then went on to work for Dorsey, a truck manufacturer, and Honeywell  Aerospace.  Living the American Dream, he bought the Corvette in March 1964.
Bob Johnson, former NASCAR car owner and Crew Chief who won the 1973 Stafford Crown and 1981 Winston Cup Talladega 500 with Ron Bouchard as well as the NASCAR North Tour 1985 title with Randy LaJoie.  Not to be confused with Bob ‘Junior’ Johnson, former NASCAR driver and team owner! Owned Ermine White 1962 C1 when he was 18 and regretted selling it.  After a relative saw Charles’ car in Florida, Bob approached him but he didn’t want to sell.  It took about seven months of friendly badgering to persuade him to sell, on the proviso that he restore it to its original condition.  Bob bought the car in April 1987.  He and his friend David spent the next eight years restoring the car, rebuilding the chassis, engine, transmission and rear differential to factory spec.  They also resprayed the body and detailed the engine.  Bob reluctantly listed the car for sale through Vince Conn Corvette in Jacksonville, Alabama in order to finance a business investment.
the current owner purchased the Corvette in December 2017 from Classic Cars of Lake Ozark in Kaiser, Missouri.  He turned to Golden Chariots to handle the importation who Shipped from New Orleans, down the Gulf of Mexico to Florida, then to Southampton where he then received car in February.
The Corvette C1 was first produced in 1953 and contuined to 1962,this Corvette C1 we have only has 81,182 miles on the clock.
