Chevrolet Custom 355 V8 1949

General description : 1949 Chevrolet Custom Gasser If you have never heard of a gasser, these high powered customs typically lived at the drag strip.  These cars were stripped of any extra weight and raised for optimal weight distribution when accelerating.  In other words, they were created to go fast!  This 1949 Chevrolet Custom has the total vintage Gasser look every old hotrodder will recognize.  The body is painted in a flat Black and has been stripped of all un needed weight like the hood, grill, bumpers, trim and all the other decorative pieces.  The only decoration this car needs is the hot rod stickers that would have been sponsors back in the day.  It is a 49 body but the car is actually titled as a 51.  The front and rear windshield are standard glass but the side windows have been replaced with Red which gives it a very intimidating look if you were to pull up next to it planning on a race.  American Racing wheels are found in back with Wide White wall slicks and E/T gasser wheels up front for the ultimate vintage dragster look.  Typically the motor is just what provides power to the car but in a open gasser like this the engine is just as much an exterior feature as the paint.  The 355 c.i. motor sticks proudly up front letting everyone know this car was built to drive.  It is fitted with aluminum heads, a tunnel ram, dual 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetors, chrome pulleys, chrome brackets, a chrome scoop air cleaner, ceramic coated headers, aluminum radiator and finned valve covers.  Mated up to the motor is a Turbo 350 automatic transmission with 4000 stall converter which sends power back to the 3.73 gear Chevy 10 bolt positraction rear end.  Just because it has that gasser look doesn't mean you need to sacrifice all the luxuries so power disc brakes were added with disk up front.  The car also utilizes a trunk mounted fuel cell and optima battery.   The interior is done in all Black and is fitted with aftermarket bucket seats.  A tall skull topped shifter is routed to the floor and moves through the gears smoothly.  The original speedometer is mounted to the dash but an aftermarket set of Autometer gauges and tachometer with shift light was also installed.  A tilt steering column is mounted in front of the driver and is topped with a Pilot steering wheel.  If you don't like people checking out your car then this may not be the classic for you because wherever it goes it is sure to get attention.  It has an awesome look and represents a class of car a lot of people aren't familiar with. Cruise around in this gasser for $41,300.00!

About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
