The vehicle featured here is our 1928 Chevrolet Depot Hack Woody. This is a unique vehicle called a "depot hack". Today we call these taxi cabs but back during the 20's and 30's these cabs certainly looked different. The depot hack received its name because many of these large vehicles were purchased by railroad stations that used them to take passengers to their hotel.

These were also the woody's long before Ford began building their popular woody's for individual use. The earliest woody's however were the wood bodied depot hacks like the one shown here and were specifically built to carry people along with their luggage.

The woody vehicles are considered the forerunners of what America came to know as the "station wagon". Most contend that the station wagon began with the depot hacks and evolved through the 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon. The term station wagon appears to have begun around the late 1920's. Today's station wagon could be called an SUV.

Our 1928 Chevrolet Woody-Suburban or Depot Hack Desert Coach is from California and has been a well maintained Woody Hack. It is equipped with a 4 cylinder 35HP Inline 4. This was the last year of the in-line 4-cylinder engine in this model and the first year for mechanical brakes. The ‘28 is equipped with a 3-Speed Selective manual transmission, 21' steel disc wheels and the electrical system has been converted to 12 Volt.

About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
