Just as it had done 21 years previously with the Traction Avant, Citroen stunned the world again at the 1955 Paris Salon with the launch of the futuristically styled DS. Beneath the aerodynamically efficient, low-drag body shell, there is an all-independent, self-levelling, hydro-pneumatic suspension, with power-operated brakes, clutch and steering. No European car would match the ride quality of the DS for several years; the success of the hydro-pneumatic suspension was demonstrated by its survival for another four decades.

DD Classics is delighted to offer this rare right hand drive example of the Citroen DS23 Pallas. Beautifully finished in the most sophisticated Metallic Azure Blue, complemented with bright Chrome details. Inside, the DS23 is extremely luxurious; the sumptuous Pallas seats are upholstered with Black leather and the floor is lined with sumptuous Blue padded Wilton carpets.

Built to top-of-the-range Pallas specification, this late-model DS23 retains its original, electronic fuel-injected 2.3 litre engine and has the highly desirable 5-speed manual transmission. The Pallas luxury equipment package gives the DS a subtle air of extra-refinement and distinction. Additionally the car has a CD player and Pioneer speakers included.

A fascinating file of documentation accompanies the car and includes the original book-pack, still in its plastic wallet. Our Citroen DS23 is an extraordinary car, it is clear the owners have taken meticulous and sympathetic care for the vehicle throughout its life.

To open the door is to step back in time! Such is the condition of the car, in all areas, that one might believe for a few moments that it is still 1974.

About Citroen
French industrialist André Citroën had been building arms for the French army during WWI by the end of the war he was left with great industrial facilities but no product for the post war market.

In 1919 he founded Citroen that became the first mass-production car company outside the USA[3] and a pioneer of the modern marketing as well as factory backed services network. Mind you, even Eiffel Tower served as a billboard for Citroën from 1925 to 1934 -Mon Dieu, monsier!

Soon Citroën earned a reputation for innovation and revolutionary engineering. Staying true to their slogan "Créative Technologie" Citroën has many "firsts" under their belt:

Europe’s first all-steel-bodied car, the B10 In 1934.

The world's first mass-produced front-wheel drive car,Traction Avant, (also one of the first cars to feature a monocoque-type body)

The world's first hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension system, introduced with the revolutionary Citroën DS / ID models in 1955, as well as the first production car with disc brakes.

Swiveling headlights in 1967, and finally variable assist power steering in 1970

With Citroën purchasing Maserati in 1968 a door opened for a high speed GT-model that would compete with Ferrari, Aston Martin et. al, when introduced Citroen SM was the world's fastest fwd-car.
